Hey everyone! I just had a question on my old laptop. Its been sitting around for a while and i decided to try and fix it after having my dad take it around to a bunch of repair shops, but none could fix it. Well to make a long story short, its a toshiba m55-s325 and i beleive it has a pentium m 740 1.73 ghz processor. Anyway when we truned it on it would stay on for a little and then freeze after about a minute and u had to restart it! Today, i figured out the problem by going to the bios settings and changing the cpu power from dynamic to always low. I dont understand why but when i put it on low (only 800 mhz instead of 1.73 ghz) it wouldnt freeze anymore so i put it back on dynamic and it froze again. Does anyone know why this is the cause? Do i need a new cpu cause they are cheap so i can get one soon. Please leave ur opinion on what the problem could be.

There might be a reason. Or maybe your father said he wouldn' pay.
Check the CPU fan is running and the air paths are free. If the blown air is cold, it's not good either.
Is there any temperature indication in the Bios ?

they didnt ask my dad to pay unless they fixed it, but to answer ur other question it is blowing some cold air out. What does this mean? Any other ideas?

If it blows out only cold air than there is probably no power on the CPU so it must be a motherboard problem and that can be very expensive.

actually its not blowing cold air its normal, but as i said in the original post it freezes the whole thing and u cant move the mouse or anything and u have to restart it when its in high power but when in low power it works normally but slower. any idea?

Can you leave it on Bios screen for some time on "high power" to be sure it's not a software problem ?
The cold air could indicate that the radiator is not properly set on the CPU.

There is a possibility that the frag-tape has come off, but since is mostly foam like I would think that the chance is small. But indeed, you never know, it sure sounds like a heat problem...
