Where to get all the Stuff in Germany? :D

I got a blue ca-42 cable from ebay. That is the only thing I needed to buy. I also used a cd-rom audio cable I had at home.

Here is a link from ebay.de with a cable that looks like mine:

ca-42

Hi everybody,

I have a 7200.11 ST3500320AS (firm SD15) with BSY error :}

At first I tryed to replace the PCB by an other ST3500320AS --> not recognized by BIOS...

Then I tryed the gradius solution:

/2

Z (Spin Down Complete Elapsed Time 0.147 msecs)

With the POWER CONNECTED to the PCB board I mount the board back on the HDA case

U

I hear the motor and 7 min after I have the same message:

erroreek6.jpg

(I use a power sullply +12V-4A +5V-5A)

why it doesn't work?

Thanks

the ca-42 i got has 5 cables.

white

yellow

green

black

red

the only way i can type in hyperterminal is if the yellow and white wires are crossed - does this mean they are the rx/tx wires?

also crossing theblack and yellow wires brings up random characters - so is the black the ground?

i dont have a circuit tester or multimeter so cant check the outputs from the usb?

HELP!

Hello, i have a similar.

If well the same, I think:

white=Tx

green=Rx

yellow= ground data, cable shield.

and

RED=+5V, pay attention, no connect to DD/TTL.

black=ground power

im even more confused now.

i thought;

white - tx

yellow - rx

black - ground.

but when i connect white + green it shows some random stuff also - so is green ground too?

AND when i do yellow + green I can type meaning green may be rx/tx??

can I do any damage by using wrong cable?

Disconnect from DD, connect white and green and type caracters with hyperterminal, if the caracters typed will appear on screen, that means RX and TX are well white and green.

If else, connect both yellow and green, and see.

I have two questions.

1) "Now the tricky part. Pratice a lot without any power before even trying this. You need to make sure that the screws don't touch the PCB board where they aren't suppose to or you will fry your PCB board. If you have been practicing and the power is not connected, start at STEP ONE."

If the screws are so tricky, can't the board be reconnected without the screws? Doesn't it push into place? Does it not work until you tighten the screws?

2) I only have an external eSata enclosure (http://www.futurelooks.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/vantec_nexstar_hd_dock-9.jpg), I can still do this right? I just test it with the enclosure when finished.

thanks.

[EDIT] from reading the thread I see both my questions answered - 1) I see people have refined the initial front-page post by taking only three screws out and using card paper to break the connection. For 2) the adapter won't help with power, and even if it did some people report issues with power from adapters, but it should work for testing the drive after (I think?)
