The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs

Recommended Posts

I have the following:

ST2000DL003

...

...

... it has been recognized as "st_m13fqbl" with 3,86GB.

So, my question is:

Is this the case of trying this method?

Well, since this method is for 7200.11 Drives and NOT for Seagate LP Green drives and your Drive are neither in the BSY, nor 0LBA state, the short answer is NO no.gif (and you are in the wrong thread realmad.gif).

However, IIRC confused.gif, there has been some reports where a failed fix resulted in a wrongly displayed model, which has been resolved by doing the fix again (on a 7200.11).

So, since this is like a "general reset" the method might work, if you can get it to work in Hyperterminal (which has been a problem for LP Green drives ph34r.gif). See if anything here helps http://www.msfn.org/...-ceases-to-tal/

I had the feeling that i might be in the wrong place, but nothing else seems to work. Saddly i think my drive "is no more" at this time. Maybe i'll use a hammer to tear it apart and send as a gift to Seagate.

Thx. :thumbup

Hello. I have followed the same procedure, I came and me everything you know that message came from the hdd, ending with the final partition sucecs user. All well and good my Seagate 320gb hdd in bios and it sees 320gb capacity but when you boot windows 7 from the hdd and repaired it at his side and when the system starts to appear buteze icons screen turns black, mouse I can move on the screen and not do anything. What can I do them again to make it start. Specific certainly not anything I did wrong procedure. I tested now on a system with win xp and I installed the 2nd hdd hdd and they try to start Windows blue screen appears and begins checking hdd and everything is one line that says 63,600 can not read and so, after 8 o'clock arrived at 76,000 and counting. Why is that? Thank you in advance for response

Ok, at least you can see your hdd.thumbup.gif

Now your first priority is to recover any data that you do not have a backup of.

Try putting that hdd as a secondary hdd, boot from the good hdd and see if you can see your data and copy that to a safe location.

Once your data is safe, you can worry why the disk is not bootable.

Well, if you have no important data on the disk of which you have no backup of, and can afford a new hdd, that is certainly a good way to get rid of your frustration thumbup.gif

Otherwise, let us see if we can find a solution to your problem. On further searching, I found a couple of very similar symptoms on the 7200.11's (but no solution yet ph34r.gif), so it might be caused by "something else". I will look some more and hopefully find something helpful.

I've just dissassembled the drive and found on the first disk a huge scratch with 2mm wide. So, mistery solved. Maybe a power surge caused this.

_TK_here (August 10, 2010) had exactly same problem as you on an ES.2, which was solved by the shorting trick, so there is hope, we just have to find the right answer for your problem.

Maybe start a new thread and we can see if we can find more info on that problem for your drive.

Problem solved. My mistake was that you had typed the last command "Z" than I typed "z" small and I think something happens and does not work well. After I repeated the procedure and I typed that last command in hyperterminal "Z" great everything worked perfectly. Thank you so much for this thread.

If you can not update the firmware from seagate because idiots do not allow this even if I have firmware SD11 are likely to receive error LBA0 again? Can I safely use hdd? Or you can do to be able to update? My life no longer buy Seagate and I recommend to all my friends not to buy either.

DO NOT be obsessed by "firmware updating", the condition that can cause the problem is an extremely rare event and statistically will happen again, without any firmware update, no sooner than three to six months of intensive use, you have ALL the time in the world to perform the firmware update after the unbricking, and even if it bricks again, you now have the tools and knowledge needed to unbrick it in a few minutes. Upgrading the firmware is a risky operation, DO NOT DO IT unless really necessary, and ONLY do it AFTER you have your DATA back and backed up on another media.

I too seem to be having trouble with the 7200.11. I am firmware SD81, which is known to have BSY problems, though Seagate doesn't admit it.

In any case, I followed the steps for the BSY issue, but that didn't fix it. I did have the symptoms of that issue, but there is something else going on as well. The drive powers on, no weird noises. The BIOS does see it after a cold boot of the machine, but it does not see the drive after a restart or reset button. Though the BIOS shows it, no OS recognizes the drive. While the OS initializes, you can hear the drive moving (like normal), but you don't see the device, leave alone partitions.

I have terminal'd into the drive and again, spin up, spin down, all functions return. I have posted various outputs of the on-line diagnostic commands. Please let me know your thoughts. I sincerely appreciate your input!

Any thoughts on this?

Please kindly share any advice/ideas you have, as this one has stumped a few of us :(

Please take your time reading ATTENTIVELY the Rules of this Board, particularly Rule 2a:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules

2.a Use some common sense. Do not create identical topics or make identical posts in more than one forum. Think before posting and choose the right topic for your question or answer. Do not "bump" newly created topics until at least 24 hours have passed. If a topic is been "bumped" three times without any new replies, please consider reviewing and editing your original post and adding any information which you think may help other members in answering your question(s) or concern(s). When posting, have something to say, not just "My First post!" or "Cool site!!!" We sort of have the idea by now. :-)

PLEASE, do NOT double post.

You started a new thread, here:

let's continue there ONLY.

Hi All,

I have followed the instructions and everything went well, although at the last step I didn't get a "success" message just:

F3 T>m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22

Max Wr Retries = 00, Max Rd Retries = 00, Max ECC T-Level = 00, Max Certify Rewrite Retries = 0000

This took about 12 minutes.

I power cycled the drive and before hitting Ctrl-z it says:

Rst 0x20M

RAP subfile error 2044

RAP subfile error 2044

I have searched here for anyone else getting this message and didn't get any hits ...

Is there a diagnostic command I can enter (in Putty) to establish if my drive is OK or not?

Thanks in advance!

Des
