I got 64bit Vista, and downloaded the 64bit installer for 1.6.11 Java RE. Well, it just won't work - everytime I open a web with java-something on it, I get Opera popup about not having Java installed. It IS installed and it even is enabled, too!
What gives?

Is Java is working in other browsers like IE and Firefox but not Opera?

I am almost certain you need the x86 Java installed, because that is what most java applets on websites are compiled for; the x64 JRE is useful if you have a Java program that can use it.

Also Opera is only available as a x86 application, so it cannot use 64bit plugins.

A notice on the JRE 64bit download page:

There are no 64-bit versions of the Java Plugin, Java Web Start or Java Control Panel; however the 32-bit versions of the JRE can be installed on 64-bit systems in order to obtain this functionality. Note that only 32-bit browsers are supported at this time.

Also worth noting that even on x64 versions of Windows, x86 IE is still the default. Installing the x86 version as previously mentioned should get you working again.
