Partition Find & Mount implements a new concept of deleted or lost partition recovery.
It works in the most convenient way possible — by locating and mounting partitions into the system,
thus making those lost partitions available to you like any generic disk volume. Partition Find & Mount
will also work in case any Boot Record (including the Master Boot Record) is missing, damaged or overwritten.

A Universal Windows Bootrecord & Bootmenu Creator (HDD, USB-HDD, USB-ZIP, MBR, PBR, Grub4DOS, PLop etc.)...

Backup/restore MBR (Master Boot Record) + PBR (Partition Boot Record) Change your MBR/PBR to another type

For example, with this utility, you can install Grub4DOS to your MBR or PBR, install NTLDR or BOOTMGR
to your PBR, install SYSLINUX to PBR, install the MS-DOS boot record to your PBR, and so on.

And, BOOTICE allows you to rename the boot file, e.g., you can rename Grub4DOS's boot file
from "grldr" to "ggldr", NTLDR boot record's boot file, from "NTLDR" to "SMLDR" or sth. else you like.

It also has the ability to re-partition and format your flash disk drive. You can even seperate your flash disk
to 2 partitions(only 1 is accessible in Windows, the other one is hidden for private data or boot images).
And another useful function is to backup or restore your MBR/PBR of your disk.

What a great list! Thanks.

In the PDF catagory, I love CutePDFwriter and there is a free version that does everything I need to create a pdf file. Very fast, too.
http://www.cutepdf.c...epdf/writer.asp

I've had trouble opening pdfs from a brokerage I use (Scottrade). They want you to use Acrobat, of course, and I just hate that bloatware. But Foxit will open the files when others won't. Somehow Adobe got a hook in there and are still trying to keep pdfs proprietary. Grrr.

Best,
ardi

Bespin is perhaps the best name for a cloud app I've ever heard. LOL

Though it may have been better suited to a data mining cloud app. ;)

I'd like to see an Educational category - but the only entry I personally have for it right now is Stellarium - may be a little graphics intensive but it's great - from their site:

Quote

Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.

I never see clipboard managers on these lists - how do people get along without one? it's beyond me!
YankeeClipper III - my favorite
ArsClip

a couple of dictionaries accessible from the tray:
there's WordWeb and StarDict has a Windows version

Also...
LMMS - Linux MultiMedia Studio has a Windows version now

Great list of free software.
I would also add Paragon Backup & Recovery Free Edition, this is the only link I could find.
It's as good as the paid version, that's why they removed the product page from paragon.com

A word of warning.

RMPREPUSB is a "generic" tool (works with any USB stick). :thumbup (and is quite known - a good two thirds of the "install Windows from USB" apps use it :))

UFD-Utility (Usb Flash Disk Utilities) © 2008 Ao-LAB (USBest) @ TAIWAN is a "Manufacturer tool" and will ONLY work with sticks that use USBest controllers, and most probably only the UT163 and UT 165.

More details here:
http://www.911cd.net...pic=14564&st=14
http://www.911cd.net...pic=14564&st=17

DO NOT EVEN THINK to use that utility on a non USBest controller. :w00t:

Glad you found the tips useful.

I like to copyright, CC or use GNU or BSD license on all my work. It's happened more than once that people will copy whole pages from my web site to theirs and act as if it's their work. By the way, usually quoting a portion of a page, especially if you're attributing the source, is considered fair use although the definition of fair use varies.

Sure :), I am pretty familiar with the "fair use" provisions ;), it was just the "anything" that cracked me up  :thumbup .

And I intentionally quoted a sentence that cannot really be considered "creative work" but rather "factual data" (exempted from Copyright protection) ;).

BTW, one thing is Copyright (which gives you some rights on the copy) and another is - within your Copy Rights - to prohibit reproduction of "anything".

IMHO the Creative Commons is more "near" the philosophy of both GNU and BSD than applying your copy rights this way.

The article/tips are very nice, as said very good work! :)
