160GB Internal HD , does it work with w2k?

I am planning on buying this like tomorrow , i just wanted to make sure 160GB is supported with windows2000/sp4, i also have the update rollup install.

Yes, but you need 48-bit LBA machine and/or a registry setting (EnableLarge-something). Also, the appropriate drivers for the MoBo in question would help. Intel, SiS (I think), and Via have drivers to work around the issue.

And he doesn't. The Intel 810 chipset is 10 years old and ATA66 only, so no LBA48. He'll only see up to 137GB, unless he buys a controller card with it.

Last time I've even seen one was around 1994 or so (as in, 15 years ago), for the 528MB barrier on a 486 (which was a limit based on the int 13 handler

If i only see 137GB, thats lol perfect. I am using a 500GB external HD, and i only see 465GB.

@CoffeeFiend - Believe me, it's still there. Just uses a different name. Had be sure it was NOT installed on my 250gb when I ran the CD (my MoBo supports large). Needless to say, I used alternative methods (Linux Live CD) for partitioning (the Install CD stuff stinks).

And I won't swear to this, but it might work as long as the first partition is limited in size and then use the remainder of unallocated space after you're up-and-running. I think this is similar to the workarounds used in 98SE threads.

edit - gparted live cd (uses Ubuntu as a basis). Works great. Jaclaz shuffled me to it. It also allows un-ticking hidden partitions.

Because that's its "real" capacity i.e. not limited at all. 500GB = 465GiB (much like a 750GB'er shows as 698GiB, or a 1TB shows as 931GiB). It's not limited to 137GB (128GiB) as it's not using your onboard ATA66 controllers but the one in the enclosure.

Thanks for the info. I will let everyone know when i get it. I have been using 10gb since 2000 for my internal hahaha. Should be a nice upgrade
