This will likely be the last of the 3.5 series releases as Firefox 4 went final today.

Why have they released an updated version of the 3.5 series when there is currently a 3.6 series?

Yeah, but if it's to do with security then I find it strange why someone would be using 3.5 when 3.6 is more secure between the two.

Not exactly: in this moment 3.5 and 3.6 series are on the same level of security.
Of course this would change, if Mozilla will not update 3.5 line anymore (Firefox 3.5.18 as the last version).

Btw, for Win9x users it's not important anyway.

yes , but on my old W98SE machine Firefox 3.5.* run match better then 3.6.* (faster, less HD activity ....)

I'm not surprised by that: usually newest versions are at least a bit heavier than the previous ones.

Btw, I'm using Firefox 3.5 too (3.5.18).

I haven't found a problem with 3.6.

The reason why to use FF 3.5.x is that this is the last version that supports the classic-java plugin. Since the nextGen plugin won't work on win98se this is the only way if you want to use the most recent java with your browser...

Im sure I read somewhere that office 2k3 wouldnt work, well... I got it to install (following another post earlyer about using orca) and I am running word right now.

I have the latest version of propel Accelerator, Propel Accelerator 6.1.6.1147, which requires XP, working with Kernelex 4.5. After the installation reboot, I had to copy the file, msvcr90.dll, from the Propel Accelerator folder in c:\program files to the Windows system folder to get it working. Also, in order to have it load when opening Windows, which would ordinarily be the default behavior, I had to put it manually in my startup folder. Now that it's up and running, it seems to work just fine, better than the old Win98SE compatible version.

4.5 Final fixed the bug with the FreeCell solitaire game I mentioned many moons ago.

Reversi still has a bug, but it's a new bug. The cursor now works fine, changing to and from crosshairs as intended. But now all the occupied squares are the same color! Rather challenging to play now; oh, well....
