I don't know what other info I can give you that I didn't already post. Here, the resource drain is reproducible using any PDFs over 1MB in size. All it takes is opening 3 of them from file in their own tabs, then start switching between the tabs. The GDI resources drop with every tab change until they run out. Gave the OS, KEX version and the version of Foxit being used along with a link to the files I first used. What other info do you want?

New allocator is used in all applications unless you explicitly disable KernelEx extensions in compatibility tab.

There is a scenario in which Miranda IM would damage RP9/system skin objects. RP9 has protection against that, however KernelEx 4.5 can break it. Next version should have that fixed, but i'm not sure about Miranda being so stinky.

OK - I wrote yesterday that Firefox3.6 was rock solid for me, and this is true, but I discovered today that the Java doesn't work anymore. I don't believe I have read anything about that in this thread so far.

Here is what I got:

1) Loading a java-based page I got asked to install a plugin. It tried to do so but the auto installation failed. I tried a manual install with no success.

2) After investigation it transpires that Firefox3.6 needs JRE6update10 minimum to have java work. I eventually got that JRE version installed and then, when I went to the java-based page that had previously asked me for the plugin, I just got a black screen in the java area, and NO request for a plugin download. So nothing works there now.

Not sure how to proceed here. I could revert to a Firefox3.5x - but 3.6 is supposed to be be much faster. Do you know Xeno86 if this factor can be addressed?

In order to fix Foxit 3.1 leaking, turn off its toolbars (F8). Fix for that issue may or may not come in next version.

I use Java plugin 1.6.0.18 with Firefox 3.6 and I have noticed that too;

if you type "about: plugins" in the address bar of Firefox 3.6, you will see :

Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U18
    Fichier : C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\new_plugin\NPJP2.DLL
    Version : 6.0.180.7
    Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_18 for Mozilla browsers

with Firefox 3.5.* or previous versions :

    Classic Java Plug-in 1.6.0_18 for Netscape and Mozilla

So you can see that Firefox 3.6 use the "Next Generation Java Plugin 1.6.*" that doesn't work on W98Se even with KernelEX,
while Firefox 3.5.x and earlier versions and other browsers use "Classic Java Plugin 1.6.* that work without problems on W98SE and KelnelEX (I use KelnelEX 4.0 final 2; I wait for a stable release of the 4.5 version ).

Is there a way to made Next Generation Plugin working with KernelEX in the future ?

Yes, I can confirm that too.

I have Java 6 update 18 installed (next-generation Java plugin is disable) and it works with Firefox 3.5.8 (KernelEx 4.5 Beta 2)

Unfortunately, it doesn't work with Firefox 3.6 (no matter, if that plugin is disable or enable).

Honestly, I don't know what could be the reason/reasons.

Btw, PierreLeGnome, I don't think that Firefox 3.5.x is so much slower than Firefox 3.6
The bigger problem is that officialy, it could be supported just until August.

I can confirm the IE6 crashes, although I don't think I've had them while browsing MSFN.
Since upgrading to KernelEx 4.5.x, I get occasional, random IE6 crashes (with default IE6 re-start).
There is no apparent pattern that I can find.
I thought it was just my Windows, but perhaps not.

No other crashes to mention, in fact very stable.

I have similar graphics glitches and also a nVIDIA card.

I've tested Foxit Reader again. I think Version 2.3 is stable - the function "go to bookmark" doesn't work correct (in this and the newer versions).
If I turn off the toolbars in 3.1, Foxit seems to work more stable. Sometimes I still got the GDI.EXE Error in large documents after scrolling for a longer time.

Just a heads up on IE6 crashes on MSFN. I have plain vanilla 98SE2ME without KernelEx and mine crashes on MSFN since the site upgrade.

I've been running 98SE + SP2.1a + 98SE2ME + RP9 + GDI Heap Extender Beta 1 + KernelEx 4.5 Beta 2 continuously for a week without a restart now...
I normally restart my PC every couple of days because it becomes unstable.
However, since installing KernelEx 4.5 Beta 2, it has been so stable and fast that I just haven't needed to.

I've been using Microsoft Word XP, Excel XP, Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer 6 SP1, Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0, Firefox 3.6, Windows Media Player 9, VLC media player 1.0.5, and many other apps and applets.
Some of these apps have been continuously open for many days while working on files (saving as I go of course!).
I've been viewing YouTube and other flash videos with Adobe Flash 10.0.45.2 with no problem.
PDF files standalone and webpage imbedded are working fine with Adobe Acrobat 6.0.6.

The only issue I've had, as mentioned previously, is the odd IE6 crash out.
It does not seem to be linked with anything in particular.
Sometimes it's been while reading a webpage of text.
This has happened perhaps five times this week, but has not destabilised Windows!!!

I also have for a long time had problems with Microsoft Word XP (2002) completely locking Windows, mouse and everything.
So far it has not locked the system since installing KernelEx 4.5 Beta 2.

Same thing here (and that's why I downgraded to version 1.03).
Tooltips are working and that's almost all what we can use.

I have an odd problem and was wondering if someone could help. I'm using Win98SE with KernelEx 4.5 beta 2, Firefox 3.5.8, Flash 10.0.45, and the Firefox add-on DownThemAll 1.1.8. It mostly works, but there are a couple of annoying problems:

1. DownThemAll won't save my download directory. Thus I can't use its DTAOneClick feature.

2. If I right-click a link to a file and select "Save link as..." the dialog box asks me whether to save using DownThemAll or Firefox's built-in downloader, as it should. But if I choose DownThemAll it opens the file with the built-in downloader anyway.

Changing the compatibility settings didn't seem to make any difference, but these problems don't happen on my WinXP machine at work. Same version of Firefox and DownThemAll.

Anyone have a clue what's wrong?

Other than that nuisance, I'm really impressed with KernelEx. Great job!

(I had the time to write it down while scandefrag was running). After restart I went to Start/Find and searched for cvtaplog, because I did not know what it was. After having found it I could reproduce the crah. I then replaced cvtaplog.exe with the intital file with SFC (from C:\windoiws\options\cabs). Then I searched again for cvtaplog, found the replaced (!) file and it crashed again, THIS TIME in Kernel32.dll (similar message than the hexadecimal message above). Finally I replaced Kernel32.dll and ... no more crash !!!. (But the first time the link was to KEXBASEN)

Just for information and with the hope this might help you a bit, I am not able to read the hexadecimal message above!

Hi RodgerOver,

The error message that you've posted proves that at the time you got that crash KernelEx 4.5 Beta 1 was running.
I'd like to note that replacing Kernel32.dll from install media effectively stops KernelEx from functioning.
Note that you can always check the version of KernelEx currently running on your system by right clicking on any executable, selecting 'Properties' and switching to 'Compatiblity' tab, at the bottom you should see vesion of KernelEx currently running. It should say "KernelEx Core v4.5.2" for KernelEx 4.5 Beta 2.
If you don't see 'Compatibility' tab then it means that KernelEx is not running.
I would suggest a clean install of KernelEx, that is uninstalling the version you have currently installed, rebooting, removing C:\WINDOWS\KernelEx directory if it exists, installing KernelEx 4.5 Beta 2 and rebooting once again.
Don't forget to let us know if you still have problems.
