Hello everyone.

I just downloaded internet explorer 8 final version (It's released today)

I want to integrate IE8 into my WinXP source, but there are no ways to integrate.

nLite supports up to beta2, HFSlip doesn't support IE8, and it can't integrate with command-line parameter (Like /integrate in hotfixes)

How can I integrate IE8 into my windows source ?

I know it is released today, but I hope i can integrate.

(Sorry,bad English)

Edit :

I found a way.But i haven't tested yet.

First extract the IE8 installation exe.
Then Click Start > Run and type this:
[IE8 Folder]\update\update.exe /integrate:[WinXP Source]

I hope this will work.

Hope it goes well (MS quote) -

Slipstream installation. This enables the deployment of Internet Explorer 8 and customizations as part of the Windows Vista operating system image, eliminating the need to install the browser separately. When Internet Explorer 8 is deployed in this way, it will behave as part of Windows Vista, thereby improving desktop consistency and manageability.
Let us know, ok? (seems like it should work...)

edit - if above is true (Vista having IE7?) may have to do IE7 first.
Anyone else?

I get "Extracted packages cannot be integrated. The /integrate switch must be used with the original software update package." error when I try that :(

From Microsoft:

Slipstreaming Internet Explorer 8 is only supported in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 do not currently offer a solution for slipstreaming Windows components, which are built using update.exe.

So you cannot slipstream using update.exe in XP.

Why beta? IE Final was released on 19th March 2009.

Download IE 8 Final for your Windows:

You could give this switch a try

IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe /quiet /update-no /norestart

or for more switches, open cmd box and type: IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe /help

That's what I used successfully during RunOnceEx. Exactly the same as with IE7.

Sooo, bottom line - no "direct integration". Only solution is during install via (see post above). :thumbup

As a german user, I really give a BIG THX to Sereby,
who created a Slipstream-IE8-Addon - but only for german XP, sorry.

Maybe the folks here come out with an english addon soon.

You could use IEAK 8 kit and then just use msi switches to install it.

The intent is to integrate ("slipstream") it. The Installer already has the facility to "silently" install, same as a "custom MSI" might...

I'm not sure if it's such a big loss to not be able to directly integrate it into XP.

Supposedly some sites don't play nice with it. I've had the same headache with some clients that use Realtor websites when IE7 got installed with Windows Updates. The site didn't work right. Fortunately SP3 hadn't plowed through my work so I only had to revert back to IE6 and not remove SP3 then IE7. Quick appointment, happy customer.

At this point (with IE8 being so new), I'd rather just do it the way I do with IE7.
That is install it via RunonceEX method.

That way, if it is a rare problem, it can be uninstalled. And if it works great, then they already have it.

I suppose I can look into the compatibility list, but even then, some internal sites don't play nice with IE7. So again, it's nice to be able to go back to IE6 and not have an angry client with hours of unbillable time to redo their system to the way they like it. Or not have a repeat customer.

I'm sure for those that like to integrate (meaning replace all old dlls/exes with the new versions) to get the "leanest" unattended installer, that's ok too. Just keep in mind people install windows with various goals.

There is an add-on for the final version of IE8 at WinAddons website.

I repeat - the WinAddOn version is not an integration; it is set up as a hotfix slip. The only significant thing in it is the INI; the executable is just what anyone can download from MS (not "modded" at all). In other words, not exactly completely integrated (an HFslip only).

You should understand the difference between a Hotfix Slip and True Integration. The Sereby version is designed to completely overlay the IE6 with IE8 whereas the version being WinAddOn linked to "all over the place" does not. Check it out and you'll see. Not knocking the "Slip" (the lone INI), but there ya go...

Read my post over here. I stated that it's up to you, but be aware. ;)

Hope this clears up some confusion.
