I just joined especially to say thanks to the creators of install xp from USB, it's helped me a lot . Well here's the scenario, while installing xp using txtsetup on my dell dimension 5000 i got this error while setup checked drive c before copying files : .sif file used by setup is corrupted or missing setup cannot continue.
The error also mentioned the file binifix4.cmd under [SourceDisksFiles] (i cannot remember the exact wording of the error)
To fix it i removed the usb plugged it into my laptop and opened up txtsetup.sif in notepad and ctrl+F'd sourcedisksfiles. I noticed that the code for binifix4.cmd along with undoren.cmd and ren_fold.cmd read:

100,,,,,,_x,2,0,0

which differed from the other million files which read:

1,,,,,,3_,2,0,0,,1,2

simply changing the 100 to a 1 and then saving the .sif file fixed the corrupt .sif problem. I don't know if this is a mistake in the .sif or not but it fixed my problem. Hopefully this will help anyone who gets this error, i think its pretty rare as a google brought up few relevant hits.

Was the source with any service pack?
What are contents of SourceDisksNames.x86 and Strings sections in txtsetup.sif?

I guess that explains why.
Perhaps not very many people are using similar version, as this syntax has been used since the first versions of USB_prepare and USB_multiboot and no one reported the issue.

Hmm, just checked WinSetupFromUSB 0.1 beta, 0.1 and the latest 0.1.1, all them use 1, NOT 100. What did you use to prepare your USB stick?

usb multiboot 10, maybe that's why?

Yeah, it uses 100. I had the wrong impression from your first post that you have used WinSetupFromUSB.

In USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd the value of 100 was used, but this value was already present in the very first program.

I think 100 is used for SP1 and 1 for Original files.

It will be better to change the program so that the value is 1 for the added txtsetup.sif entries.

Plain XP dosn't support USB2.0. Installation may take some time, if it works a all.
Several thousand user used XP SP1 at last so far.

It's also surprising the 500.000 figure!

As a side note, it's an interesting "psychological" and absolutely empirical observation how this proves that people are:
1) mostly (beside harmless ) ungrateful
2) completely failing to read or comply with what they read
