VPN/ port question Rate Topic: -----

I set up my XP machine to allow incoming VPN connections, i have a router though so what port would i have to open up on the router to forward to this machine??

Some routers have VPN pass-Thru. have a check in your config page to see if yours is one of them!

how does xp accecpt an incoming connection?

smartass083 , the ports used by windows (i dont know if those are standards) are:

1701 - UDP
1723 - TCP

forward those in your router to your pc's ip that's receiving the connection (client)

This depends on what you are using for VPN (PPTP or IPSec). I would assume that it is PPTP, as that is the default built-in with windows. that is TCP/1723.

I'm not sure what kind of router you have but as already stated some routers have a built in function called VPN Passthru or PPTP Passthru or GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation). If your router doesn't have these selections built in, there is probably a place to forward ports. You need to forward port 1723 to the internal IP address of your XP machine.
