I am running XP Pro SP3, nLited with the current latest version.
As part of of a malware repair, I had to install WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Pro-BootDisk-ENU.exe (to run ComboFix).
The repair was successful, but the IE icon has appeared on my desktop.
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer - NoInternetIcon=1 doesn't make it disappear.
Any help greatly appreciated.

testerh, is there some reason you don't want to delete it? Enjoy, John.

John,
Are you telling me it's that simple?
And I was looking for registry hacks...

testerh, I certainly think so. Whenever a shortcut shows up on my DT after an install, and I don't want it, I just quickly stick it into the Recycle Bin - gone! Enjoy, John.

John, thanks for this simple solution.
It didn't show up in the Recycle Bin though. It being a special icon (not a regular shortcut) I didn't spend much time wondering. Good riddance.
