@Mann: Look at my post above (stamped Jan 24 2004, 07:00 PM): you should slipstream the SP1 (or SP1a) manually. Then int the XCREATE menu "Custom CD Settings", change "Set XP Source Path" to your slipstreamed XP.

FRAMEDYN.DLL and perhaps other problems.

I made 2 tests:
  • {117} XPCREATE with XPSOURCE = Original XP with manually slipstreamed SP1, no HF,...:
    This lead to a FRAMEDYN.DLL not found error (during RUNONCE), bad screen resolution, ie not corresponding to my .SIF
  • {001} A WinXP + manually slipstreamed SP1 + my WINNT.SIF: Everything was OK
The only differences between the 2 CD are the following:
  • {001} has the same DOSNET.INF as {117} but with 4 lines more at the end:
    [ForceCopyDriverCabFiles]

    [OptionalSrcDirs]
    SVCPACK
  • The SVCPACK.IN_ are the following:
    Test {001}                       Test {117}
    -----------------------------    -----------------------------
    [Version]                        [Version]
    Signature="$Windows NT$"         Signature="$Windows NT$"
                                      MajorVersion=5
                                      MinorVersion=1
                                      BuildNumber=2600

    [SetupData]                      [SetupData]
    CatalogSubDir="i386\hotfixes"    CatalogSubDir="\i386\svcpack"

    [ProductCatalogsToInstall]       [SetupHotfixesToRun]

    [SetupHotfixesToRun]             [ProductCatalogsToInstall]
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    The differences are the following:
  • The version,... are specified.
  • There is a "\" before the "CatalogSubDir" path, but normally, this is not an error.
  • There is no svcpack\ folder in i386\.
  • The 2 lines "[ProductCatalogsToInstall]" and "[SetupHotfixesToRun]" are exchanged.
  • I already pointed in another post that there are readable lines in a compressed files, perhaps is it normal; but the original file has none; GreenMachine (I hope!) will look at this point.
Does anybody have an idea which of these differences could cause the above error?

EDIT:
Solved :rolleyes:. Now I am burning my CDs with "good" ones (= no noname), and everything goes well :)

Okay,

I've searched on vmware and pause and winnt and ndisuio.sys got nothing, and every other combination that might cover this, so here goes..

If I boot vmware from the xpcreate cd, it at least gets to the GUI looking part of the install (I'm pretty sure it gets all the way)..

destroy the above and start from scratch..

boot to 98 rescue disk with cd support.

fdisk

create partition and reboot..

load smartdrv

format HD

f:\i386\winnt

PLEASE WAIT WILL SETUP COPIES FILES TO YOUR HARD DISK.. takes forever.

eventually setup is copying files..

about 43 % mark..

ndisuio.sys wont copy.. have to skip

75%..
wzcsape.dll wont copy have to skip

90% ish
ntkrnlpa.exe..skip

ntkrnpamp.exe...skip

eventually.. msdos portion of setup is complete.. remove disk from a.. hit Enter to reboot and continue xp setup..

OK, try same with XP sp1 slipstream cd used by xpcreate... All completes without errors.

So... anyone have any ideas? I looked at ndisuio.sys and the layout.inf file sizes dont match.. but I also read layout.inf cant be edited, and why would the copy work if booted from cd? Could it be a problem with the dos session uncompressing those particular files for some reason??

HELP!

@notme

I've had the smae problem durning a dos install. From what I've read from MS, durning a dos install there is a lot of things that are differnet. And any changes that have been made to XP installation don't work in a dos install for the reason it's unable to find certain files since it think it's working from a CD.

Durning a CD install everything is located on the cd and no were else. In Dos install things get moved around and XP is unable to find them anymore.

It's very hard to explain without going into very deep detail about it all. Best bet is to stay with only a CD install and not from a dos prompt. XP can format and make partition from CD install so no need for DOS.

Those files are the same files I have problem with durning a dos install. But work fine with a CD install. In plan english, XP wasn't meant to be install from DOS. MS is trying to get ride of it so the support for a dos install is very small and buggy. That's why they push baselining over a network so much then doing a DOS install.

im having a problem here. im using the old version of XPCREATE (the one before SATA was added b/c i dont need to use SATA and RAID). i let XPCREATE do most of the stuff, however not all in one go, just step by step. The only changes i made were:

-adding some switchless installers
-replacing the winnt.sif with my own (a working version which i had been using for my previous unattends
-removing the SATA and RAID drivers from being loaded in txtsetup.inf which i read somwhere on this forum and had used successfully before.

my setup is crashing at a very early stage both in virtual pc and the real thing. it crashes at the stage where it loads all the prelimanry stuff like "generic usb hub" and "keyboard controller" etc....this is even before setup asks u to choose the drive.

im postin a screenshot of the error...
hope u can help GM! keep up the good work

Thanks for that, I did everything I could to check it wasnt just me. I'm used to doing old installs that way, coz then no one asks for the cd. I can see one answer is to not slipstream certain files, or find out how layout.inf gets changed by slipstreaming (or is it supplied complete and already signed?)

Some installs I do are on standalone machines out of the office, so here's a silly question..

Has anyone documented a method of changing XP to think that it was installed from a HD directory? Im searching around but most say search the registry and change every entry that looks like '?:\i386'.. but that doesn't sound very exact..

Loop / Not responding at T-9!

Many of my tests seems to block the installation at T-9.
I disconnected all of my external peripherals, and now, everything goes well: no more infinite loop at T-9 :rolleyes:. I have still to determine which is the offending peripheral: network card (an old 10 Mbps Realtek), USB printer, SCSI scanner, Serial modem and USB Webcam; I will try today and will update this post. (I am pretty sure it is my network card)

This removed also the "FRAMEDYN.DLL not found" and "SRCLIENT.DLL not found"...

--------------------------
Keywords: infinite loop, not responding, nine minutes, peripheral

EDIT:
Solved :D. It is not a peripherals connexion problem: now I am burning my CDs with "good" ones (= no noname), and everything goes well :)

XPCREATE script Help

@GreenMachine:
In XPCMAIN.CMD, the Help process is missing; you should add something like: (1 line)
IF /I %RUNOPTION%==V START "Go IE" "%ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" "http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com\XPCREATE\help.htm" & GOTO EOF

BUG when installing on a target drive different from the Window drive when XPCREATE.CMD is executing.

Eg: I am creating my unattended CD from D:\... and my SYSTEMROOT folder is C:\Windows; but my target SYSTEMROOT will be D:\Windows.
In this case, RUNONCEA.CMD will move the HF to C:\Windows, but the .CMD will look in D:\Windows.

Correction in XPCMAIN.CMD: SYSTEMROOT should be enclose by twice double "%" as:
ECHO MOVE /Y XPCIN*.* %%SYSTEMROOT%%\ ^>NUL  >> RUNONCEA.CMD

Hi,

1. Where should I put 832353 (WMP) & 832483 (MDAC) in order to install them properly with XPCreate?

2. Why is the list of current Hotfixes in GreenMachine's site doesn't match the list of AaronX Hotfixes (there are way too many)

(1) 832483 (MDAC) should replace the old MDAC in REPACK\MDAC\
WMP should be in REPACK\WMP\ (my name is MPSetupXP.exe)

(2) Ask them :)
