Cor'e =)
This is just a factual analysis continuation of the question of what happens when service packs are integrated (slip streamed) in succession on top of each other or the latest SP alone is integrated. For the SP2 version of this question please click here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...t=0#entry851769I can start by saying there are many differences, and here they are; but i do not know yet what the ramifications are of these differences.Windows XP Pro x32(SP0 OEM)+SP3 vs. +SP1+SP2+SP3: Edited April 20, 2009 by Cor'e =)

redxii
There shouldn't be any ramifications, it just tends not to clean out obsolete files, like SPx.cat/SPx.cab. Even Microsoft's image contains obsolete files, but they aren't referenced anywhere in the INFs so they are ignored by setup and take up space:mmc.ch_mstsc.ch_mstsc.ex_mstscax.dl_plugin.oc_rdsktpw.ch_

It looks like SP2 creates or updates your other listed files (except plugin.oc_), however, SP3 does not... How did you confirm that these files may or should be deleted without ramifications?mmc.chm == M$ Management Console Helpmstsc.chm&exe == M$ Remote Desktop Connectionmstscax.dll == M$ Terminal Services ActiveX Clientplugin.ocx == IE7 ActiveX Controlrdsktpw.chm == Remote Desktop overview Help Edited April 20, 2009 by Cor'e =)
redxii
Those compressed files aren't referenced in dosnet.inf or txtsetup.sif. There are newer remote desktop files on the disk that are used. Example, mstscax.dl_ was replaced with lhmstscax.dl_, but lhmstscax.dl_ is still extracted as mstscax.dll. mstscax.dl_ is obsolete. Plugin.ocx was made obsolete in a security update released for SP2 (KB912945).mmc.chm is extracted from mmcS.ch_.
