I kinda imaging that Opera 12 is extremely buggy on all platforms. I was wondering of Opera 12.01 and Opera 12.1x fixed these problems.

Yes, Opera 12.50 alpha works much better than the official "stable" 12.00 but it's still very far from perfect.

By the way, the guys from http://dexpot.de/ did a lot of work to be sure that the new version of Dexpot 1.6 won't run in Win2k. It's built in VS2010 so by default it doesn't even launch in a stock Win2k... Normally the blockade is gone after installing unofficial kernel but not here. They even added a special "welcome" message which is displayed when trying to launch dexpot.exe after installing UURollup-v10b:

post-310716-0-75972400-1342924253_thumb.

I don't know how to patch the file (dexpot.exe) permanently but this reg files will let you switch dexpot.exe compatiblity on and off:

Dexpot2k_ON.reg

Dexpot2k_OFF.reg

This is a temporary solution so if you reinstall the system or copy the Dexpot folder to a different system you'll have to add the registry entry again.

I can't believe that they added the OS check stating that the operating system version is no longer supported or that it no longer even supports some versions of Windows XP. If Dexpot 1.6 doesn't even launch on Win2k, you'd get a error that the "access to the directory is invalid" or "[filename.exe] is not a valid Win32 application".

I'm wondering if it's even possible to using a utility that will remove OS checks or use KDW, set the compatibility to Windows Server 2003 and try to run the app. By the way, I suspect that after version 1.6 of Dexpot, it's obvious that version 1.7 maybe complied in MSVC 2012 and it will most likely not support Windows XP/Server 2003 at all.

You do get the "not a valid Win32 application" error if you try to launch it in a stock Win2k... but then after UURollup is installed it still checks for the OS version and refuses to launch :w00t:

The registry setting from above does exactly the same thing as KDW. The problem is that it's not permanent. I'd be interested in modifying the dexpot.exe once and for all.

That's correct. I believe that the last free version of Dexpot was version 1.4, if I can recall.

Thank you for clarifying that Dexpot is free for personal use. :) I thought that it wasn't free, but no...until I went to the Dexpot website and found that I can download it, freely for personal use only.

Sorry to revive this thread again, but it looks like that Opera is the last browser to pull the plug on Win2k in Opera 12.10 (and not Opera 12.50 as previously mentioned). It no longer works at all. :(

The reason is that opera.dll calls GetGeoInfoW and GetUserGeoID do not exist in Kernel32.dll even with UURollup v10c installed. These dependencies are only present on Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1 and later.

However, without UURollup, the entry point GetAdaptersAdresses does not exist in IPHLPAPI.DLL.

If there are any workarounds to fix this either with KernelEx or with the UURollup, let me know. :)

:hello:

By the way, there are actually several less known browsers which do support Win2k (even without the unofficial kernel), ex. QupZilla.

Qupzilla is complied with Visual Studio 2008, incase you didn't know.

You guys for got to mention, e-Frontier Poser 7 (2006) which required a 700 MHz processor and 512 MB of memory and nearly up to 2.5 GB of disk space. I bought it from eBay for Christmas under $35 (including shipping) and it was originally sold for $199. What a bargain! :)

Poser 7 was the last release under the e-Frontier name before it was acquired by Smith Micro and it was also the last release that worked under Windows 2000. Updating to Smith Micro Poser 7.0.4 (Service Release 3) had no effect on the system requirements.

Prior to that, I had Curious Labs Poser 5 (2003) installed on this computer.. I don't think Smith Micro Poser 8 (2009) and Smith Micro Poser 9 (2011) works with Windows 2000 even with UURollup, due to OS checks and the fact that the product might not even work correctly under Windows 2000, if not at all. :(

Also, Windows 2000 support was dropped when Smith Micro released Poser Pro in 2008.

I've just tried to install a trial version of Smith Micro Poser 9 using Application Compatibility Launcher (included in the newest daily release of UURollup-v11) and it installed without any problems. I can't check whether the program runs or not because you've got to enter your credit card information in order to be able to use the 30-day trial.

If you do use the program then I think that you should try to install it yourself using your credit card info. If you're afraid about installing the daily release then you can wait until a new weekly release is ready this weekend. Application Compatibility Launcher is going to be included in it too.

Happy new year to all of you! :hello:

Ski Challenge 2013 officially demands Xp but runs perfectly on my plain W2k without extensions.

Previous versions officially ran on W2k.

Better: you can install Ski Challenge from the partial installer, let it update online to have all the tracks, copy (zip) the executable folder.

For later use, just paste the executable folder where you want and run the exe file :w00t: . Better if saved from a fresh installation, without tunings.

This works for:

- versions no more available on the Web

- from a connected computer to an offline one

- from Xp to W2k

- from nVidia to Amd and reverse (the saved fresh installation had coarse display resolution)

- but older versions are language-dependent.

Truly nice game, which accepts moderate hardware. :thumbup

The latest version of Winamp which support Windows 2000 is 5.63 (June 28, 2012).

I'm wondering if the latest version 5.666 build 3516 can run in Windows 2000.

Last version of Winamp (5.666.3516) works fine in Windows 2000. :w00t:

With the latest KDW, just select Windows XP as OS and select "Fake registry".

In this way you can fool the installer :w00t:

We need to start getting this list a bit more updated. Can anyone who uses Windows 2000 test the ongoing support list in the first post of this thread and find out what works and what doesn't work? If support has ended, we need to have that documented. I know Skype for a fact is pretty much dead in the water as far as support. But since I use a patched environment, it would be helpful if anyone who doesn't run KernelEx or has an extra installation that is SP4 UR1 vanilla could test some of those programs and report their statuses so we can update the ongoing support list for 2016.

Hope a forum moderator or admin could update the list and include with kernel extension.

I have a program to add; driverbooster

Although it was never supported on Windows 2000, it works with the blackwingcat's kernel extension.

Your lucky may vary though. It will heavily depend what year the drivers made for xp were or if they are blocked from the system. Many earlier xp drivers tend to work on W2KSP4

Incorrect, turned out kernel extensions were required...

The last version of CCleaner to run on W2k Pro officially is 3.28.

The current version of CCleaner is 5.15; the portable form runs on unofficial W2k Pro by using the application compatibility launcher.

The 5.15 full installer also works, but there is a trick:  first run the portable version using application compatibility launcher.  Then install the full version using application compatibility launcher.

The only bug I’ve found is that the CCleaner interface identifies the OS as Windows XP.

A few things I have discovered:

Vanilla Windows 2000 (No unofficial updates) - Flash 11 up to 11.4 is usable by using a hex editor (see link here: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1012569?start=0&tstart=0)

- EaseUS Partition Manager 6.5.2 runs on Windows 2000 without any problems. I know versions 8-9 don't work but I'm not sure if 6.5.2 runs or not.

- Avast Antivirus 8.x runs on Windows 2000, but do not use with UURollup/BlackWingCat's kernel as Avast thinks a few unofficial update files are malware (which they are not

- Adobe Reader 9.5.5 is the last Adobe Reader for Windows 2000.

UURollup/Extended Kernel: - Latest Firefox runs well. I'd like to say that the latest Flash works too but I haven't used Windows 2000 on the web in a bit. I'll test some more apps and post the results later.

For anyone who is still using Java 6, Oracle has released update 115. Has blackwingcat updated JRE 6u115 to be compatible with Windows 2000?

As far as I know, Oracle will continue to provide paid support for Java 6 until December 2016 after which it will go into Sustaining Support and will no longer be updated at all.

Yep. Java 6 still remains under paid (extended) support until December 2016. After it comes to a close, Java 6 will go into sustaining support which will last an indefinite period of time. According to the Java version history on Wikipedia, Oracle made paid support for customers running Java 5 until May 2015...after which that version was completely retired.

Oracle stopped providing premier customer support for Java 6 last December.
