TrueTransparency v1 is now available and still works superbly on Windows 2000.

@Tripo: The older version will occasionally crash and leave windows without window borders at all. The new version seems to be much better, it crashes less and restores old window borders on crash. I think the random closing of the program is caused by something (it seems to be on a pattern), but I can't quite figure out what.

Thanks I didnt know that there was an 1.0 version.
i will try it out right now

Edit:
I have done some test with TT and it does work great on my Windows 2000 computer.
it has not crashed once.
The other version did crash after a few minutes.
Crash with no message just the old borders or no border at all.

DivX 6 was the last version to work on Windows 2000.

DivX 7 shows an error on install but can be remedied by using KDW to change OS to XP. But it doesn't work as the player needs an API from CRYPT32, which putting the KDW file in the same folder doesn't resolve for me.

Apparently these work:

DivX 7
Safari 4
Windows PowerShell
among others.

Blackwingcat's blog at http://w2k.livedoor.biz/ has a bunch of things, but it's in Japanese. The pictures get the point across though.

EDIT: I just realized I've posted three times in a row. Oo

EDIT2: Microsoft's Virtual CD-ROM power tool which says XP works on 2000.

Hi.

In your "Support discontinued" list, you should include .NET 2.0 SP2. I found that, though not officially supported as stated in the download page, it actually works on windows 2000.

Forgive me if I missed these in earlier posts, but since I'm still running Win2K (occasionally XP) even though we've got Win7 on order finding good security products is becoming harder:

Last Win2K versions:

Online Armor Free 3.1.0.26, which is somewhat more current than

Comodo Firewall Pro 2.4.18.184 (though both are still quite respectable)

However, Avira's AntiVir still supports Win2K, as do a large number of other useful applications. For that matter, if you sit behind a hardware router/firewall and are careful where you surf even Win98 is still surprisingly usable (last I knew Avast's anti-virus still supported it).

It can be found here:

http://win2kgaming.s...ewtopic.php?t=7

KDW has way surpassed it in terms of compatibility and ease of use.

Also new to the list:

TrueTransparency v1.3 (blurring also works on Windows 2000)

VSTHost v1.47 - latest Version - still being developed.

If you do much with digital audio either recording or editing, and need / want to test out VST instruments or effects before
you drop them into your DAW - VSTHost is a great tool for the job (it can do more). The latest version (listed above) runs on
the following OSes -> Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000, and XP.

Wow. I didn't know that a new version of TT was out. I'm testing it with the next version of SmoothText and they're playing very nicely together.

What about SeaTools for Windows? (You know, it tests Seagate's hard disk drives. Several simultaneously, and you can do something else on your computer at the same time, which are advantages over the Dos version I like).

I tried to install v1.2.0.2 on W2k, though it officially requires Xp. Installation works but I get the error
Not found ThrowWithExtendedInfo(System.Management.ManagementStatus)
I have installed DotNet 1.1sp1 and 2.0sp2 (instead of 2.0sp1).

Then I tried SeaTools v1.2.0.1 which was officially for 2k and got the same error.

First, where should this ThrowWithExtendedInfo come from: Windows or DotNet?
And what is the latest version of SeaTools running on W2k?

On the same W2k with the same DotNet 2.0sp2, SeaTools v1.1.0.3 for Windows works where 1.2.0.1 can't. There are very few versions between both.

I found v1.1.0.3 there

I upgraded my installation of the K-Lite Codec pack recently from 6.0.4 to 6.3.0, but the 'Media Player Classic - Home Cinema' is no longer supported.

It was version '1.3.2189', so does anyone know what the last version supported by Win2k is?

1.2.908.0, I believe. You can get it from here.

Adobe pulled the plug on W2k with the latest Reader, version 10, it no longer installs! Untill a workaround (if one) will be discovered I think we have to stick with version 9.

Or indeed use an alternative. For example, the open-source SumatraPDF Reader is still in development, supports Windows 2000 and is far more lightweight than the Adobe Reader:

The newest version of Defraggler (2.00) won't install on W2000, the last W2000-compatible version is 1.21. Curiously, the latest version of CCleaner (3.103) does install and run on W2000........

Hi, Colonel O'Neill

Safari 3.x use advapi32.dll's extension function.
Safari 3.0 on Windows 2000(Japanese)

Safari 4 and Safari 5 works with KDW, but it can't display custom combobox.
Safari 4.0 on Windows 2000(Japanese)

Safari 4 does not work with KDW's dll's nor will it install directly using FCWIN2K. It will not work with OldCigarette's API wrapper pack either.

Strange... SHGetFolderPathAndSubDirW is an emulated function in the wrapper. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Safari 3.2.2 works, but will crash on loading certain images.

"The Adobe Flash Player 10.2 no longer supports Microsoft Windows 2000"

Both the IE and non-IE version install fine, but throw an exception at the end. Both IE6 and Firefox Nightly use 10.2 properly.
No modifications required.

Flash Player 10.3 (ActiveX and plugin versions) both work perfectly fine on 2000.

CS:Source (non-steam) works fine on 2000
L4D2 (non-steam) works with the following modifications:
- EZ install kernel32.dll and advapi32.dll from BlackWingCat's KDW wrapper
- Import a PSAPI.dll from an XP (I used XP SP3) install and put it in the folder
- http://img836.images...73/10830056.png :D

Firefox 4.0 Nightly works properly (Even on 2000 RTM).
Incompatibilities:
- TrueTransparency and tabs in titlebar mode (obviously), but also leaves artifacts when the menubar is hidden.
- SmoothText and hooking the Window Captions causes the window to blank repeatedly.

EDIT (Apr. 14, 2011): Firefox 6.0a1 still works.

EDIT (Aug. 07, 2011): FF 8 Nightly still works, as well as Flash Player 11.
O&O CleverCache 7 works; run Setup and grab the extracted files from %temp%, drop LaunchConditions table from the MSI using Orca.
Install with setup.exe, and drop in an XP PSAPI.dll into the installed folder. Seems to work.

O&O Defrag 14 works with the same Drop Table modification. No additional DLLs are needed.

EDIT: (Aug. 24, 2011): FF 9 still works. foobar 1.1.7 works with some KDW dlls and gdiplus.
AltDrag (great tool) works with some KDW dlls and dbghelp.dll from XP.

Holy crap, this thread hasn't been updated in a while.

I recently tested out the final version of Adobe Flash 11 (runtime version 11.0.1.152) on Windows 2000, both through a Windows 2000 VM (under VMware Player) and on the host PC and it still works.

By using the Dependency Walker feature, I found that one of the files in Flash11c.ocx (one of the files attributed to the Flash 11 installation) is missing entry point function called WNetRestoreConnectionA in the MPR.DLL file. However, that does not prevent Flash 11 from working on Win2K.

I don't know if Flash Player 11.1 (if it is planned) will even work correctly on Win2K or not.

Also, has Firefox 9 Aurora and Firefox 10 Nightly been tested on Win2K yet?

If there is any confirmation on this, let me know. :)

Skype 5.3.0.111 is the last version of Skype to work under Win2k. BlackWingCat's kernel v5 (or higher) or WildBill's kernel patch (MS11-011) is required.

Thanks to BlackWingCat for this information.
