This seems like the place to mention this: A while ago I made myself some replacements to the default WindowsXP Application, Batch, and Shortcut icons.
http://images.happy-...uke/iconsXP.zip I made them to look more like something that should have been included with WindowsXP in the first place, instead of the same lame-assed icons that have been around since Windows95. I mean, come on... the shortcut icon (concievably the *most* used icon in all of Windows) doesn’t have a 48×48 size built into it. Which is especially bad, since MS seems to be pushing the larger icons more in XP. Anyway, I think it’s easy enough to use. Just extract them into some temporary folder somewhere and run the appropriate batch file. You will probably have to delete the icon cache, afterwards, too... either through TweakUI (I recommend) or I made a small batch file for that that sometimes works. Usually after a log off/on.
Here’s a comparrison preview of what they look like Application/Shortcut compared to defaults:
It’s been a while, but I don’t think I really drew any of these myself (except the shortcut icon); just found them lying in some other dlls and exes in windows. If you really wanted, you could probably just find where they are, and reference those locations instead of these seperate .ico files, but ah well.
Anyway, rather than keeping these for myself, I figure some other people might also appreciate them.
