XPerties Posted March 2, 2002 Share Posted March 2, 2002 I was at my local computer store "Circute city" and they had the new Sony PC i think its the VIA or VIO what ever.....anyways it had no floppy at all. My college still uses floppy drives to save work to if I have to finish something off at home. No point in using CD-RW, cos they don't have them, not even a CD-ROM Drive (blummin cheap bastids)I also use a floppy drive for my norton ghost 2002 boot disk (If there's an option to make a bootable ghost 2002 cd, then I'm interested - tell me how)I also use it to run FDISK (although that would be rare, only need it for a real emergency)Also, have you seen the vote results on ZDNet? most people want to keep the floppy drive. I have a couple of free sites which host files for me (actually anyone can join) Then from home I can access my uploaded files.Most colleges these days have always-on net access and even the humblest home systems have net access too.Still, the floppy ain't dead yet. STeeL Posted March 2, 2002 Share Posted March 2, 2002 I think you can't replace foppy drive until there is BIOS support for alternative. floppy disks are pretty much useless these days execpt for one - DOS bootdisk Even more, I think there is no need to replace them.1. You don't need 100 Mb Zip or alternative drive to be able to boot from it, when you can get floopy drive for $10.2. BAH Posted March 4, 2002 Share Posted March 4, 2002 Some of the new compaq Desktops PC's coming out at the moment are legacey free which means no Floppy Driveserial portparalell portPS2All common used OS comands are built into the diag partition on the HDD, which is setup through a bootable CD.Only inputs are USB 2, DVI, and firewire...
