i should have the x86 version up by tomorrow? install size is just under 1.6gb without page/hiberfile! :D i probably could have got it under 1.5gb if i removed netfx3 & few other components?

1st post now updated with x86 version! :)

make sure the win7 copy is not vlited or had any tweaks to it or any packages removed from it before applying the wim tweak! i did all the editing in vmware on xp x64 which worked fine?!

anyone actually had any luck with the batch files?

i tried running this under my main win 7 x64 os to minimize my rtm win 7 x86 for my netbook and when running the ultimatex86.bat it keeps saying "The specified package is not valid Windows package" etc..could that be because im running the x86 bat under x64 win 7 ??

ahh,i know why that happened.. I had accidently run the command on the x86 RC not the rtm..so the numbering in the bat didnt match..changed now and it ran fine :)

when you applied the wim tweak, did you include the /m switch?

Nice you now have your thread!

I'm giving up on x64 for now as I really prefer bit more compatibility with games for now [ at least for World of Goo ] and it seems x64 is problematic for now. Unless its because of slimming it down havent tried a full untouched install but i'm not interested to do that.

Cheers.

I also get "Image no longer servicable" error although the first 2 packages do get removed.

- OS: XP SP3 x86 stripping Windows 7 x86.
- Windows 7: Full untouched ISO.
- I ran the tweak to tweak the hives
- Paths are right
- Tested this same batch file many times before (in Windows 7) with success.

Heres proof that it works then suddenly stops working:

NOTE: Line 2 says "The operation completed successfully"

This didn't happen in Windows 7 I am sure!

I also disabled my firewall and Anti-Virus before trying DISM.

I have never known of anything like this where it can work and then for no reason suddenly stop working in the same batch file!

Yes all the paths are correct, hell its not like I have not used this DISM batch file like 10 times before and it worked every other time so why not this time?

ive ran the x86 batch again (im running server 2003 x86) & i dont get any errors at all! remember tho, the batch file has only been tested on ultimate, not the other versions...

ps after applying the wim tweak. wait 10sec or so before unmounting with the changes

ive ran it again (this time gonna remove netfx3) & again no errors:

Not sure what you mean. I only unmount after the tweak and DISM has run.

1 - Mount WIM.
2 - Do tweak.
3 - Run DISM (and cross your fingers lol)
4 - Unmount-Commit

Up to now 2 packages have made it fail and make it "unservicable":

Microsoft-Windows-Backup-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7600.16385
Microsoft-Windows-Gadget-Platform-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7600.16385

I guess you are on XP too huh?

I am not even sure it is just those 2, I am still testing (PAUSE after every line)

Because once it starts saying the image is "not servicable", you have to start all over again.

I am editing the open bat file taking the pauses out etc, disposing and trying again.

Why would it error out on those 2 packages on XP but not on Windows 7?

Microsoft-Windows-Backup-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7600.16385
Microsoft-Windows-Gadget-Platform-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7600.16385

HINT: Disabling your Anti-Virus (in my case Avira Antivir) speeds it up by about 4x.
Also disable your firewall, in my case, Comodo cannot "learn" and pops up crap every time asking about DISM.

EDIT: A third package:
Microsoft-Windows-Xps-Foundation-Client-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7600.16385
is also causing it to be "unservicable"

I'm sure it is those 2 packages because the removal of the 2nd packages works then the 3rd comes and it screws up so it's gotta be them

EDIT* theres something else it worked for a while then it get to inbox games package then it errors at 98.9%

You might not even be removing the same packages I am but I have the dead0 one.

These 3 definitely cause it to be unservicable and you have to dispose and start over:

Microsoft-Windows-Backup-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7600.16385
Microsoft-Windows-Gadget-Platform-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7600.16385
Microsoft-Windows-Xps-Foundation-Client-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7600.16385

You know when its going west because it gets stuck on 85.7% for about 3 minutes before telling you it failed.

NOTE: As far as I can see this only happens on Windows XP. I used the DISM batch file over and over again on Windows 7 and it never gave these errors (Error: 5)
