if you use the x86 version of ultimate then full framework is kept & it also has the most functionality! the x64 has slightly less & the server r2 will be the extreme! you may need to edit the batch file if you want to keep any items that will be removed?

So what all is removed?

the batch file mainly removes redundant files which are not used after the vlite stage!

At thi point:
7) start a cmd prompt session & go to to d:\s1\sources & run ultimate.bat

This step is where I hit a brickwall.
Every command in the bat yields:

Error: 0x80070005
Error: 5
Access is denied

Does anybody know what's the problem?I checked and rechecked the procedure.

Confirmed!!! worked perfecto. Now it's time for me to retired my XP x64 nlite (hu...hu...hic...hic) :hello:
PS: Do you have any plan for removal W7 media center just for HTPC only? I know there are a lot of people looking for this. I am one of them. Thanks for this great work.

dead0,

When I try using your ultimate64.ini, I get the error "a required cd dvd drive device driver is missing" when running the install. Do you know why this might be happening? I get the same thing with liquid0624's 7elite64.ini :(

Thanks!

Yeah, I got that mistake a couple of times. You need to copy the setup.exe from the original W7 DVD source folder (about 260kb) not from the root DVD folder (106kb) to c:\s1\source or if you are already made the ISO you can use the UltraISO to replace that setup.exe file.

cheer

I also realized the same but that doesnt stop the process from shrinking the iso image in the end
I used the latest, 2.0.17 or so i dont remember, but it doesnt unmount :s strange

Anyway im doing it with imagex the complete way "imagex /mountrw C:\s1\sources\install.wim 4 C:\s2" and "imagex /unmount /commit C:\s2"

You need to highlight it to blue by selecting the image right before clicking unmount otherwise it will do nothing as you say.

Is it possible to remove Game Explorer with vLite and not have the Win7 installation die? (not using dism.exe).

Not possible I have tried so many times.
The snipping tool package has to be removed using dism first before you can remove the game
explorer using vlite!

I posted this in the other Win7 Removal thread. I see that lots of people have posted similar questions in that thread, but no good answers have been received. This is a very frustrating error. I hope someone in this thread can help.

I am trying to run the process with a computer running Win7Ultimate x64. I don't know if that makes a difference.

I get this error when running the mount.bat file. I'm using the 7elite64 package. And I am running the command prompt with Administrator rights.

network sharing & homegroup should be working with the latest version. you will need to keep remote desktop & server in vlite tho & also the terminal services in the dism removal bat file

you might have to keep the 32bit version of mspaint so delete any references to it in the batch file. the 2nd one looks like a java error so im wondering may be you need to have the java runtime installed?

it is possible to remove most stuff with dism but all it does it blocks installation of those files, they are still kept in the winsxs folder so the install wont get much smaller compared to a full install???

you could manually mount the wim & apply the tweak?
