jminiman
Hi all,Every single Google hit on this subject under Vista mentions McAffee. I have never installed an anti-virus, firewall, security helper, etc. product on this box. I'm trying to start the Windows 7 backup application, and as soon as I hit "Set up backup", I get the error: The backup application could not start due to an internal error: Server execution failed (0x80080005).It turns out I cannot invoke Block Level Backup Engine Service. The error I get when manually starting that service is:--------------Windows could not start the Block Level Backup Engine Service service on Local Computer.Error 0x800700b7: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.---------------I traced using Process Monitor and it doesn't appear as though anything bizarre is occurring in sdclt.exe. I could be wrong, of course. Perhaps there's a permissions issue somewhere? Some help would be awesome!Update: This is a pristine image running Win 7 Ultimate RTM Edited August 23, 2009 by jminiman
cluberti
Well, short of debugging, I'd consider simply reinstalling 7 and seeing if it reproduces without doing anything else. If so, the service start will likely have to be debugged (it's complaining there's a handle to a file that has locked said file while you were starting the service). jminiman
Just reinstalled Windows. Same error. This stinks! What can I check into now?
cluberti
It repros with just windows, nothing additional? If so, where'd you get your ISO? Is it MSDN/MSDNAA/Technet?
jminiman
It was a permissions thing. I had to start the Block Level Backup Service to LogOn as my current user account. That's annoying!
