How can I make a temporary link to permanent files on my server (so as to not give the real links away)?
I'm using sbs 2008 for a server.
in other words if I have file.exe on my server and want to issue someone a random temp link to it like http://domain.com/ab...qrtstuvwxyz.exe that expires in a couple days..

im not sure, just throwing out a possible solution, run a cron job that randomly generates a string and then renames that file.

I don`t have a real solution for that.
But I know some websites change just the foldername, not the filename.
Example: ftp://root/2009.10.10/myfile.exe
Next day: ftp://root/2009.10.11/myfile.exe
