That's probably not exactly what I meant.
I didn't ask how to set account picture for account called user, I meant user account (or just accout) in general. In fact, I had an account with specific name in mind.

How many accounts do you create?
You can set the default picture with user.bmp (all users will have this) but as far as i know there is no way to set pic for a specific user. I suspect this setting might be stored on ntuser.dat and not in registry. Atleast thats the impression i got when i tried to set the icon order in the notification area.
I used regshot to capture registry from before and after i changed the order. I suppose you could do the same with the account picture to see if its location is stored in the registry.

actually not done in the reg so we can do this
Use a more advanced reg and file change program like InstallwatchPro_Inno.zip available in my Signature Download ++>. Still works on Win 8

Take ownership of say like this file C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures\usertile10.bmp. Replace with same size
Change the picture to the usertile10.bmp
Place that in the $OEM$\$1\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures\usertile10.bmp

User is not created till desktop loads so we can do this during Firstlogoncommands
Copy the C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Contacts\YOURUSERNAME.contact somewhere to $OEM$ so we can copy during install
Copy YOURUSERNAME.contact to here C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Contacts\YOURUSERNAME.contact

EDIT: I haven't tested this but it should work. Might be able to even create the $OEM$\$1\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Contacts folder and it may work. I'll try myself soon
Just copying the files to OEM doesn't work, files are present but image was default. Might have to try with Firstlogoncommands. Or either figure out the command to register the .contact file

Is there a way to somehow set user account picture during unattended installation?

Fully 100% possible.
I have discovered really easy method which works instantly. I may make a separate post for this soon.
It may not work for first login but it will replace this after that. I have to test in Firstlogoncommands which will take me a bit

Yeah it has something to do with needing to show one of the pages in OOBE, you need to omit either the AccountName or ComputerName (I forget which). I usually get around this by deploying an image to Audit Mode. Creating a user account, assigning a picture to it, then sysprep with an answer file. I obviously create an account with that answer file, but I set the pre-created account as the one that logs in automatically.

thanks Rick but yes I shoot for 100% and don't want to go into Audit either. That makes me look for other ways to accomplish things MS tries very hard to keep us from doing for no reason. We are merely customizing our OS the way we like.

After I sysprep with my unattend.xml the system reboots then fails to build properly claiming "a component or setting specified in the answer file does not exist."

Can anyone tell me what is causing this? My unattend.xml is attached.

Look at line 177 inside your unattend.xml file, a part is missing.

Change to:
<component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="amd64"...

<RegisteredOwner>Sapere</RegisteredOwner>

For Windows 7 OS: SetProductKey.rar (fr-FR/en-US. Integrate keys).

don't have much in Audit passes either if you are actually doing Audit Mode
Look at Auditsystem and Audituser example here.

Nope, that didn't fix it.

The exact error is:
Windows could not parse or process unattend answer file [C:\windows\panther\unattend.xml] for pass [specialize]. A component or setting specified in the answer file does not exist.

I guess that means something is broken in the <settings pass="specialize"> ????

I took a look at the examples and noticed my specialize has a lot of x86 entries in it when really it's only used on 64bit machines now. I copied the 64bit example you linked into my xml and then transposed my various 64bit settings only and added a few others. Although I don't know which line exactly was causing me the issue doing this has solved the error.

Cheers.

Yes, I give you a correct fix...Look carrefully the pass: <settings pass="specialize">

You can also remove the last line, because you've made an AIO and the image names aren't the same!

I have not even tried myself but all the data is still there in Win 8 unattend.chm so you would think it should.

I have some problems with my answer file again. Installing in VM works FLAWLESSLY, but when I try it on real PC, I get all those language settings and basically any window that has button to click on pop up on me in the initial WinPE setup phase. It almost looks like the file is being ignored for some reason, but I can't tell. I even validated the file in System Image Manager from WAIK, and there were no errors.
I am completely clueless. Please help.

Use this for your WinPE language stuff.

<component name="Microsoft-Windows-International-Core-WinPE" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
            <SetupUILanguage>
                <UILanguage>en-us</UILanguage>
            </SetupUILanguage>
            <InputLocale>en-us</InputLocale>
            <UILanguage>en-us</UILanguage>
            <SystemLocale>en-us</SystemLocale>
            <UILanguageFallback>en-us</UILanguageFallback>
            <UserLocale>en-us</UserLocale>
        </component>

If you still get the initial language selection screen, then your XML isn't being found. How are you installing it on a real PC?

Yes I was about to say <UILanguage>en-US</UILanguage>
Note:
This setting is required for all unattended installations.

But it's right there. That and "setupuilanguage" are the only required ones for unattended setup.

After a few hours I managed to solve it though: I had to add a bloody product key to WinPE pass!! I mean, wtf is that? I didn't have to when I did a test installation in a VM. I have no idea what's behind all this, but at least it works now.

This is what works 100% now:

(well, works 100% minus the attempt to log results of those firstlogoncommands :P)

P.S. Does anyone know why this **** forum software always screws formatting up?

Yea, it's weird.

I am playing around with integrating IE10 right now. The actual integration goes without problems, but something is not compatible here.
<component name="Microsoft-Windows-IE-ClientNetworkProtocolImplementation" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
            <CacheLimit>51200</CacheLimit>
        </component>
Based on documentation, this value is in kilobytes. Well, something is different in IE10, and upon installation and first opening of options it yells out about the value being above the limit (or something), and automatically changes it to 1024. Apparently the stupid program works on megabytes basis now, which really is pain in the butthole. You'd think such very basic settings should be the same across various versions (it's still IE, damnit), but Microsoft knows better again...

About CacheLimit, the valid pass is using oobeSystem pass!

Cheers

Oh. You're right. Why does it work then? (for default image at least)
And ironically, the WSIM never gave me an error when validating it like this :D

WSIM only validates against whatever rules are kept in the catalog file. It has no idea about how Windows actually behaves when it processes the file. Case in point, if you were to put an invalid character in ComputerName, WSIM won't catch this. But Windows will throw an error when it tries to set it during an install. ;)

Finally figured out how to install my printer a Kodak ESP C315 AiO although not completely silent

It has an AIO installer. I start it and let it download to %Temp% and capture that folder. AppData\Local\Temp\KodakKbiDownload
I copy it to %Temp% with my runoncex cmds
I then can call the cmd /k aio_install.exe and it uses the folder in %Temp% so it don't download again unless it was updated.
The /k stops the cmd window so the aio_install will finish since it starts several other programs and drops out itself during the process
I then close the cmd /k window when it is done and rest of APPS continues.

Some will say just execute all the msi installers for different portions silently.
Well I tried that but you end up with 5-6 different programs under add/remove instead of just 1 = KODAK AiO Software
