I used RT7lite to remove features, and after that vlite to remove winsxs.
Surprisingly, the installation never stopped, no need for oobe.exe.

KB947821 have been updated august 23. It didn't show up at WU, but can be downloaded:
http://catalog.updat...2windows%207%22

Unlike earlier version, this one can be installed manually, just start the MSU.

I have not really understood this tutorial (not very good in english ^^) is to "remove" the winsxs and save space for the installation of Windows 7, right?

it's good for a windows 7 x64?

thanks

I tested by deleting winsxs (cache) with vLite, no problem with the installation

I just have a problem (already noted by someone) with the Event Viewer and the "setup"

@aviv00

The only problem I have is one channel in event log does not work. See images below. Do you have this problem then cheking administrative events?
Any ideas how to fix that?

Are there any files protected in Vlite?

I wanted to delete the file pending.xml in winsxs but I did not (I just reboot.xml)

I prefer to delete only this file (finally I understand and if possible without removing the winsxs (cache) with Vlite)

thank you ;)

its for users that use SSD [flash drives] mostly or have problem with winsxs getting bigger everyday
its might help save same space not sure how much and help make OS have less IOPS usage

my english is not good too :)

Ok, attached my file .ini

I just delete the winsxs (cache) from an ISO has already changed by vLite
Better to do for a clean ISO?

I did not find the file pending.xml in winsxs, is not normal?

thank you ;)

PS: I use an SSD in fact

so I have file pending.xml on ISO"clean"

I deleted gimagex after I integrate the updates to the ISO and using vLite
it's good, so far?
not need to "delete" winsxs (cache) in Vlite?

for not having the error message (Event Viewer), what files/dll must be protected?

thanks ;)

EDIT: I tried just deleting the file "pending.xml" (but without using Vlite)

no error message in Event Viewer, but the folder "winsxs" has over 5.66Go

and using rt7lite (not possible to use vLite on my x64 laptop) and removing some components, I have a folder "winsxs" of 3.33Go ...

is much more than you...

ur ini is pretty good
just services dns client try not to remove it
and the services tuning could be problematic[its might connect to event log]
so leave it default and try it again

if that not working

try to use the long method do the vliting after using vmware and capturing

anyway i recommend to wait for windows 7 with sp1 so then footprint will be much smaller
and less bloated with many dupes files versions

ok, just removing pending.xml, it does not change the size of the winsxs folder after installation

must delete the file, then check winsxs (cache) in Vlite then?

in the first post, it said delete the file pending.xml or use Vlite to remove winsxs (cache)
I had not understood :blushing:

Quote

Method 1 : just remove Pending.xml from winsxs dir using imagex.exe
[before u delete this file u need to know its like file with some proccess that need to be done after doing update or removing or adding packages mostly not effect the system]

or

if u don't ever used imagex or dont have waik install...
Method 2 : Forcely finishing setup by running cmds while the setup

0. use vlite and choose Component Cache (winsxs) too
....
....

thanks ;)

EDIT: is what we can integrate KB947821 to ISO (instead of installing it when 7 is installed)?

integrate the last

ok, I had integrate with dism, I have to removed, then?
if it's integrated, it will not work?

sorry to insist, you just confirm to me that we must remove the file pending.xml AND use Vlite/rt7lite to remove winsxs (cache)

thanks ;)

ok thank you;)

I'll test with the KB integrated

my English was not good, I had not understood the need to delete the xml file and delete winsxs (cache) with vlite/rt7lite (I thought it was one or the other)

thanks ;)

EDIT: I tested by integrating the KB, after installation folder "winsxs" is 2.13/2.17Go
is much more than what I saw on this topic, it's normal?
it is best integrated KB after installation, I think

I used Vlite and after rt7lite (I need the 2 softs to do what I want)
and I deleted the winsxs (cache) with rt7lite with vLite if I delete winsxs (cache), I can not delete DVD Maker, etc ...)

then it's rt7lite does not remove really winsxs (cache), if I first rt7lite and after Vlite (and I remove winsxs with Vlite)
after installing the winsxs folder is 385Mo (with KB integrated ISO)

but I again with the error "setup" in the Event Viewer indicated above
