Patosan
I like to minimize apps, services running so have been wondering what I'd do after I have my windows finally setup how I want it. I would prefer not to have NET.framework running but if I wish to fire up nLite I need NET.framwork. Could I easily uninstall NET ?Just now I read about the ability to run nLite inside a virtual mc, if I do this do I need NET running in the host or is NET in the virtual mc only possible ? This would be ideal ... keeping NET off the main (host) system. So do you guys keep NET.framework on your systems always ?
johnhc
Patosan, I do keep .NET on my systems always. It is used by several applications I have including, Catalyst Control Center (Video panel). I see no big problem with removing .NET. It should not take that long - just go through the Add/Remove. Running nLite or any other application requiring .NET under a virtual will required .NET installed on the OS running under the virtual system not the host. Well, unless the virtual system require .NET to run. I use VMware Server but have never used VPC, so don't know about it. Enjoy, John.
Patosan
Thanks johnhc, you beat me to answering my own question, as I realized I could easily test for it myself. So I tried nLite in vpc without installing NET and it wouldn't work even though the host was running NET. Then I installed NET into vpc and all is well. This is great news, I can keep NET off my system and install it only in my vpc for nLiting in the future. Yeah I know some apps need NET ... I always avoid them for that reason, there are always alternatives available.I have heard that NET can slow things down and also potentially be a security issue, has anyone views on this ? jaclaz
I have heard that NET can slow things down and also potentially be a security issue, has anyone views on this ?NO, I mean yes. I have NO particular concerns about slowing/security, but I consider it a BLOAT.A more complete take on the matter, JFYI:http://www.msfn.org/board/accidentally-rem...ll-t129520.htmlAFAIK nlite needed only much smaller .NET "runtimes":http://www.nliteos.com/files/runtimes.txtbut if I remember correctly this happened a long time ago, right now on the dowload page:http://www.nliteos.com/download.htmlX86:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=enX64:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=enthere are links to the "full" 2.0, instead of the "redistributable" that is here (x86):http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=enCannot say whether current nlite runs on them or in later 3.0:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=enSome of the members which are more experienced with nlite may give more updated info.jaclaz
