How to get the cause of high CPU usage by DPC / Interrupt

Recommended Posts

I tried to made that report, but im not sure it's done.

I uploaded 3 files:

1. kernel.etl : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7161077/DPC/interrupts.etl

2. interrupts.etl : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7161077/DPC/interrupts.etl

3. picture from latencymon : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7161077/DPC/highdpc.jpg

I totally gave up now :(

the kernel.etl is useless for me. It only works on your PC.

Run the second xperf command with the -d to dump the data into a correct trace file.

i also get the sound glitches while playing my game again thanks for the help i am also putting the DPC_ inturrept etl in the link for u to review just in case https://www.dropbox.com/s/l13cjl46gheeb98/DPC_Interrupt.zip

I can see it. The audiodg.exe and Starcraft 2 causes the ACPI DPC usage

The audiodg.exe calls Audio enhancements. Try to disable them:

Does this help?

I'm coming with the tail between my legs and similar problems.

I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite P875-102 and it started coming up with the sound issues due to high CPU usage.

I installed LatencyMon and ndis.sys immediately came as the main problem. Tried to update the network drivers from the Device Manager but couldn't find anything so I disabled the power management for both the Ethernet (the one controlled by NDIS) and the wireless as it was suggested and went to the Intel website. Downloaded an update for the WLAN but couldn't find anything for NDIS so I disabled the Ethernet. However, NDIS keeps coming as the main culprit with seriously high spikes. How's that possible if I disabled the device? Anything I can do about it?

Also iaStor.sys came very high a few times so I downloaded the latest driver for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology and so far it seems quiet.

Tcpip.sys also gave me a few huge spikes but I haven't got a clue how to adjust that. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I'm having the crackling/skipping of audio whenever something visually intensive is on the screen. I just did a format and fresh install of w7 after cruising forums and not finding solutions until now (hopefully).

I ran LatencyMon

"Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines executed by a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. Also one or more ISR routines executed by a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.

LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:08:00 (h:mm:ss) on all processors in the system."

As I understand it high DPC is the problem, but I have no idea what is wrong with those drivers or what to do about it. On the fresh install all I've installed is nvidia drivers (9600gt), my logitech g930, msn, firefox, League of Legends, ad-aware antivirus, mumble and steam.

Edit: Nevermind! Must have been either the soundcard or an old network card I had in there, took both out and the problems are completely gone.

Since I downloaded all the drivers from the Toshiba website and disabled the Ethernet the spikes don't go beyond 1ms, are less frequent and I haven't had a sound disruption. Only NDIS and sometimes the iaStor give me some high readings now (still don't understand why NDIS is using the CPU if the device is disabled). I'll keep LatencyMon running on the background from time to time just to check and if I get anything strange or the sound problems come back I'll trace it and send you the file.

Thanks!

Ok i have disabled audio enhancements i am not noticing the sound glitches but am still getting system inturrepts only i am not doing anything to triger it it starts right when i start my laptop i ren another trace its stilll showing the ACPI .sys laptop still getting hot i tryed to change the power plan by just messing with the setting and now i think my fan is broke it just intermitly runs its like its runing but not really not sure if its related do u think it the acpi could be the fan being broke or is it just the windows ? not sure what i should do i still have warrenty on my laptop but only on manufacturer defects here is the link for review https://www.dropbox.com/s/mgvqfvq612brdfk/DPC_Interrupt.etl..zip

I'm having some issues on my HTPC with audio cutouts. It's possible of course that these are caused by signal problems, rather than latency but I am seeing some latency issues when I monitor with LatencyMon.

I just tried running Mediaportal in a window with LatencyMon running and experienced one audio glitch but LatencyMon didn't show any problems at that time. Later I did see an issue in LatencyMon but there wasn't any audio/video glitches that I noticed. This makes it rather hard for me to create the .etl log file at the appropriate time as I won't necessarily have any indication that there has been a latency problem.

I've uploaded screenshots of LatencyMon from when it showed a problem. This had been running for about 4 minutes, but I'd been running it for 6-10 minutes before this with no problems showing up before I restarted it, so it was maybe 14 minutes before the problem manifested. Whilst the second image shows netbt.sys at the top, at the time the problem happened I think ataport.sys was at the top and netbt.sys only moved there by the time I connected with TightVNC and made the screenshots.
