Hi Mimo !

-----------------------------------------------------------

unknown: HF\windowsxp-kb957579-x86-enu.exe

That's mysterious. I found it: WindowsXP-KB957579-x86-FRA.exe

If you look at my list (see signature) you will find the reason! ;-)

Thanks Mimo !

That's mysterious. I found it: WindowsXP-KB957579-x86-FRA.exe

Your list (table 2) has this link "The advisory KB957579 can replace" this page got only "enu" KB version, that's why i though there were only an "enu" (langage independant) executable, my mistake :/

As an alternative you can extract the shdocvw.dll from WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe (SP3GDR), compress it with makecab.exe to shdocvw.dl_ and place it to REPLACE\I386.

Thanks ! Once again: my fault ! Information is on your website in Table 4 :/

Just for clarifying, if i put both in /HF:

- WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe

AND

- IE8-WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe

Should I still have to extract/makecab shdocvw.dl_ (from XP-KB982381-xxx) and put it in I386/Replace, or not ?

Keep us the good works Mimo :thumbup

not both

always IE8-WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe

and either

- WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe

or

- extract/makecab shdocvw.dl_

It's only up to you :) Second method is IMO better because it requires less space.

Ok, thanks Mimo and Parseus !

Indeed second method is fine but each month we'll had to unpack/repack shdocvw.dl_

Does hfslipfc unpack and check filever from i386\Replace\hfslipfc\shdocvw.dl_ ?

In this case method 2 would be perfect, just an idea... not a request ^^

As far I check the version of files very simple:

Flash-Player: Filename & File-Size

Root-certificates: only file-size

Of course it's possible to grab the version-info from a file, but you need an additional tool for it.

Probably: If this tool is in HFTOOLS, fc can use it. An idea...

But without this tool: It's hard to check the version if a file is available in several languages and each language has it's on file-size. I don't know if shdocvl.dll is available in different languages.

But back to topic:

Filesize:

Does WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe really contains many new DLLs? Mostly existing files will be overwritten. Of course, the new files are bigger, but in summary it's not very much. I use WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe.

checking shdocvw.dl_:

The shdocvw.dl_ is not completely included in the fc. The only thing is, if shdocvw.dl_ exists, WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe will not be reported as missing.

But shdocvw.dl_ will never reported as missing. There is a thread regarding this fix. If I remember right, the most prefer to use WindowsXP-KB982381-x86-XXX.exe, because it's easier to handle.

In addition, it updates also browseui.dll, which isn't updated with IE8 updates.
