Seems weird that some chinese characters are being shown at places where others aren't... everything is stored in the same datatypes, so if it shows in one it should show everywhere...

Can I get you to attach your XML file with these characters in them?

I'm trying to find out why...

Im trying out my second cd right now. I just did a test one earlier and the program ran without a hitch. Setting up the installs is so painless that its unbeleivable. I cant wait to see how this CD goes when i actually try to install the hotfixes.

One thing that would be nice to have support for is more than one CD drive. I would like to do a 2 CD install, but keep it unattended and use this program. It would be nice if XPInstall could somehow detect if there is a second drive and assign it a variable without user interaction.

Its just a thought, i dont really expect it to happen though.

@bigman,

the T-12min stage is from cmdlines.txt
I'll attach my cmdlines.txt and additional files here.
u can't use another .xml from svcpack.inf and cmdlines.txt as all tests done with that failed -> this means u can call XPInstall from them but only use XPinstall.xml with it.

I'd like to see a "test mode".

Something like:
<debug>yes</debug>
in the xml file.

This would tell xpinstall to run normaly, but not to run the files. It could check if they are there, but not execute them...

I'm just curious. Have you tried using parameters in cmdlines.txt or, did you happen to make a batch file that then calls XPInstall with a different XML file. when cmdlines.txt is run, the current directory is where cmdlines.txt is, so if you place a batch file next to it, you could just have it execute XPInstall with teh parameters, and if you have it in a subdirectory and taht doesn't work, just use one of the various methods to find the CDrom drive, and have it coded that way.

did you happen to use quotes as well? My computer went down, so this is all suposition, but in mine i use INFs and they have numerous parameters, and they didn't work without the quotes.

I'm amazed with wraith today.
A full day has passed by, and there haven't been the usual 2 to 3 releases?

If so, today's a special day for some reason. Or maybe he's conspiring from a dark corner to unleash a massively improved version against us? Well, he had mentioned that he had some things to do for now, so i've no idea when he'll come back. Anyway, its nice to have a version stable at the same release since 2 days.
Otherwise, I really get knocked off my feet upgrading my xml 4 times a day.

okay, nothing of note/significance posted here by me today, just a compulsive obsessive disorder that pushes me to refresh the XPinstall thread every 5 minutes and to post atleast once a day here.

Actually, yesterday I decided to have a day off... had some stuff to do around the house and I wanted to get one of my PS2 demo code's working.

Admittedly, I was putting off XPinstall because I need to do a major rewrite of it. Don't expect a new release for another whole day... *Imagines a lot of gasp's going on*

Unfortunately for you lot, it isn't really going to affect anything for you... it's all for my benefit while coding.

Hopefully I'll have something working by the end of the day.

Hi, Wraith...!

Since you're back, a couple of pointers...

I have gone back to using the RunOnceEx installation method, even though I really admire your spiffy, awe-inspiring XPinstall program...!

The problems I have had, at least using XPinstall version 2.0 at the T-9 point, are basically three:

1. Cannot seem to get certain programs installed, such as Norton Antivirus 2003, and Macromedia Shockwave (Flash is slipstreamed into I386 folder, so no problems there). It seems the switches don't work, or something? Dunno.

2. It seems my registry tweaks aren't getting implemented, despite using a command batch to achieve this, as in RunOnceEx method.

3. The switches to keep things running silently don't seem to be working well in all cases... Strange, this one...! But this kind of defeats the purpose of using your beautiful Interface, as these ugly grey windows pop up showing many of the program's installs... This happened even with Hotfixes and .Net Framework, using the /Q:A /R:N switches...

Not being able to copy, delete, or move files and folders is not a big problem. For those, I creatively use $1 and $$ off the $OEM$ folder on the install CD. Don't spend much time on that...! Delete function might be nice, but again, not necessary.

Still, count me in as a fan, that will keep trying to get XPinstall to work as I hope. No one beats it as far as looks go...!
