I just installed my new P4 today and it works. But, Windows keeps looking for drivers for it, and my PC is running, but the Processor is under 'Unknown Device' in the Hardware manager.

I don't know what family it is.

Its a Intel Pentium 4 Processor supporting Hyper-Threading Technology. 3.06GHz, 533-MHz System Bus 512-KB L2 Transfer Cache if thats any help.

I search the Intel site and Google, and can't find anything. I downloaded some programs off Intel but they wont work because the processor is not installed.

So I'm looking for some drivers.

Goto the corp update site and search for the intel cpu driver.
The windows auto update sould pick it up aswell.

Probably you need the Intel INF drivers for i865/875 based MoBos and Processors - you might already have it on a CD that might have come with your Motherboard (tell winXP to search for your processor's drivers on that CD).

Otherwise, check on Intel's downloads section.

And, see what winCPUid 3.10 reports about your CPU and motherboard chipset. If that's not able to get the right Name String either for your CPU, maybe you need to flash upgrade your motherboard's BIOS.

Firstly, you didn't state what OS it was running under. Besides you'll need to install the motherboard drivers for the OS so that it can detect the hardware on the motherboard such as the cpu!
