Hello,

I am trying to upgrade a win2000pro OS to Win Xp pro. However, the installation fails because XP won't recognize and load the drivers for my MSI Nvidia GeForce4 440 MX AGP card. Any ideas?

Grab the latest XP drivers from the MSI site:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driv...list.php?part=2
Read the version info carefully so you do not load the wrong drivers.
Some people have found it easier to just dumb down the driver to the basic MSI VGA driver before the upgrade and install the more advanced driver after the upgrade is complete.

IMO it is a bad idea to upgrade from W2K to XP. A clean installation is best. Otherwise, a lot of clutter remains on the hard drive.

I agree don't upgrade, usually creates billions of problems...
I'd say nvidia's drivers should work as well.
I think what msi dell compaq etc does it just to certify the already nvidia made drivers to their systems. on my laptop i'm using the latest 53.03 which in the list my device is not listed. works perfectly. did some tests on benchmarking, better results...
uninstall the old driver get to the standard vga display then point it to the new driver..
don't take my word on that I'm guessing go with msi first and then try nvidia if u're not that lazy... u can always go back and forth..

edit: actually just went over to the msnwar given link and it says nvidia driver so they're the same.. ..............

edit2: ok there might be a catch nvidia driver is released on December 9, 2003 whereas msi's is dated 2004-1-7.. I'd still guess they're the same

actually u know what whatever u're going to dl the msi one eitherway
why am I killing myself over here.!

yes, as XtremeMaC says, the MSI drivers are just the same version as the latest model nV ForceWare drivers.

And, don't bother upgrading. Results are not worth the time/effort you spend.
Just backup whatever you need from C:\ drive into D: or some such, and format c:.
Then install winXP. Gives better speed and performance, in addition to the fact that all the junk gets cleaned out.
