Has anyone successfully gotten the iPhone to function with iTunes on Windows 2000?

With BlackWingCat's blog help I was able to get iTunes 7.4 installed on Windows 2000 (the minimum version to support iPhone, which also requires XP or greater). I used Fcwinen.exe from KDW to do SpecialRewrite, which allowed QuickTime and iTunes to install.

However when I start iTunes, it says:

Quote

iTunes

Windows system components that iTunes requires are missing or corrupted.

iTunes might be unable to launch or communicate with iPod or iPhone. For help repairing your operating system, click More Information.

Then, iTunes does launch and when I connect the iPhone USB it says:

Quote

The software required for iPhone is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again.

In TaskMgr I see AppleMobileDevice.exe "Apple Mobile Device Service" is running, and iPodService.exe is also running. So why doesnt the iPhone work?

BlackWingCat's blog is in Japanese and has terrible Google Translation to English, so I can't follow it.

Can anyone give a straightforward guide to what needs to be done?

iPod Touch/iPhone Driver for Windows 2000(customized)[BM]
[BM]installation iTunes 10.1.1.14 in Windows 2000

I made iPhone Driver and release on my blog.
You can donwload it.
And I made iTunes 10.2 installer for Windows 2000.
(it requires sccbase.dll/sccsccb.dll)
It includes KDW Component, so you don't have to use KDW.

Blackwingcat, your amazing! :thumbup

I've been using windows 2k for 4 years on my Thinkpad T61 and it runs like a champ with no hiccups, super stable!

I gotten a iPhone 3GS from my boy friend and trying to use it under windows 2000. Gotten SP4 with all updates and proper hotfixes. So far I've gotten iTunes 10.3.1 installed, but ran into a few issues during the installment process... :(

I've used the itw2014 utility to allow itunes 10.3.1 to be installed. I've extracted iTunes 10.3.1 into the same directory as the it21k014 tool and ran the setupit command script. It ran and came across my first issue when installing the drivers:

"SetDllDirectoryW Could not be located in the dynamic link Library KERNEL32.dll"

Then it asks me if I want to retry to cancel installing the drivers, I just ignore it and then go onto installing apple updates:

"Module C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update\ScriptingObjectModel.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024769 Contact your support personel"

Then when it goes onto installing iTunes itself I get another error message:

"Module C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147023782. Contact your support personel."

I ignore it once again, but come with a error message comes up reporting that I need XP SP2 or higher. =/

Well, iTunes opens up correctly and everything works perfectly, except for syncing up my iphone. Every time I have my iphone connected and open itunes says

"iTunes was unable to load data class information from Sync Serivces. Reconnect or try agian later"

Hopefully you know moreblackwingcat .

I really enjoy all your resources for Windows 2000 and allow further use of it with new products.

I released iTunes 10.4.x installer for Windows 2000 v0.20.

You may ignore any error, in the Installation.
I think your installation succeeded.
Did you install Q888609_v3 ?

If you don't install it. Apple mobile device service stays "starting" forever by setupapi.dll's bug.

Hi blackwingcat,

I have installed iTunes 7.3.2.6 but I get the message about it requiring Windows XP.

I have Windows 2000 Server installed on my PC and I have installed Q888609_v3 which I downloaded from your web page (http://blog.livedoor...ves/873798.html).

I also downloaded iTunes 10.4.x Installer for Windows 2000 itw2k020a.zip (1.9M) from your web page http://blog.livedoor...s/1327962.html.

When I run setupit.cmd, I get the following and nothing is updated/installed on my PC.

Hi BlackWingCat,

The files, contained within the zip file (itw2k020a.zip) that I downloaded from your website, are as follows.

AdvapiXP.dll
iphlpaxp.dll
KernelXP.dll
mDNSResponder.exe
MOVEEX.exe
msvcr80.dll
rplbfile.exe
sccbase.dll
sccsccp.dll
setupit.cmd
setupsub.cmd
ShellXP.dll
spw2kcnv.exe
taskkill.exe
usbaapl.sys
uxtheme.dll
Ws2_XP.dll
WTSAPIXP.dll

There are no msi files in the zip file.

Arigato, Michael.

I believe you're suppose to unpack the iTunes installer (the file you download from Apple) and place the contents in the folder with the iTunes installer (blackwingcat) files. You'll need WinZIP or WinRAR to do that. Then run the setupit.cmd file and just follow the instructions.

Is there a particular version of the iTunes installer, from Apple, that I should be using with the particular Zip file I downloaded from BlackWingCat's website?

Should I deinstall iTunes 7.3.2.6 before running BlackWingCat's installer?

Thanks, Michael.

Yes, I would uninstall the old version of iTunes. I believe you can use the newest version of iTunes with this installer. I pretty sure it works with at least version 10.5.x.x, but don't quote me on that. I don't really use iTunes much.

Hi.
You must down load itunessetup.exe which version you want to use.
(from filehippo and oldapps)
And extract it, itunes.msi and so on.

Hi BlackWingCat,

So for version 10.4.x of iTunes, I need to use your file named itw2k020a.zip?

If I want to use version 10.5.x of iTunes, then, I need to use your files named itw2k021a.zip or itw2k021b.zip or itw2k022.zip?

I do not understand the difference between files itw2k021a.zip, itw2k021b.zip and itw2k022.zip.

Also, on your website, it says that both itw2k021b.zip and itw2k022.zip are "(1.9M with QT/Safari Only Installer)". Is this correct?

http://blog.livedoor...es/1327962.html

I have found various versions on oldapps.com but I would like to know which would be the most recommended version to use?

Arigato, Michael.

Yes.

But you may use itw2k040.zip
Difference are some bug fixes and included iPhone Driver version.

The installer requires original itunes for XP 32bit installer, and you must extract it into the folder.

After clicking on the Yes button there was some more output in the DOS Command window but I was not able to capture that.

After restarting the PC another message was displayed as you can see in the following image.

I hope you can help with these problems.

Hi.

You must ignore restart message and next step.
And the error dialog shows some times, you must close it.

If you selected restart and reboot your pc , you must reinstall it.

Hi BlackWingCat,

Still no success. There were lots of Error Messages.

I will post all the details tomorrow.

After trying to start iTunes, the final message I got was as follows.

"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)"

Do I need to restart the PC now?

Here is the output from "setupit.cmd".

Hi BlackWingCat,

There will be more than 1 post to give you all the details I documented because there are a lot of images to show.

Here are the details from the installation I attempted last night.

After starting the installation the first error message I got was as follows.

Posted Image

When I clicked on OK for the above message, I got a message indicating that an Entry Point was Not Found for AppleMobileDeviceService.exe but I missed capturing an image of that message.

Posted Image

AppleMobileDeviceService.exe - Entry Point Not Found

Around the same time there was also a message indicating that the Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start.

Posted Image

I clicked on the Retry button for the Apple Mobile Device Support message (Service failed to start).

I then clicked on the OK button, multiple times, for the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe - Entry Point Not Found message.

Eventually the Apple Mobile Device Support message (Service failed to start) reappeared and I clicked on the Ignore button.

The Apple Mobile Device Support message then displayed the following and I clicked on the No button.

Posted Image

A message regarding the Bonjour directory appeared and I found a file called Bonjour that had a size of 342KB and a date/time of "6/4/2011 16:20".

Posted Image

I saved that file to another directory before deleting it and then clicked on the Retry button.

I then got a message that mdnsNSP.dll failed to register.

Posted Image

I tried clicking on the Retry button and then the Ignore button.

I then got a message that Service 'Bonjour Service' failed to start.

Posted Image

I then clicked on the Retry button twice before clicking on the Cancel button. I am using Windows 2000 Server as the Administrator.

After clicking on the Cancel button the following message was displayed,

Posted Image

I clicked on the Yes button and afterwards the following message appeared.

Posted Image

I clicked on Retry multiple times before clicking on Ignore.

I then got the following message.

Posted Image

At this point the Output for "setupit.cmd" had reached the following.

"Wrote file 14224 bytes[1/0]
1 file(s) copied.
Read file 257344 bytes
Wrote file 257344 bytes[2/3]"

I clicked on the OK button, for the above message, and I got the Windows Installer Message below.

Posted Image

I clicked on the OK button twice before the following was displayed.

Posted Image

The above message was updated to the following.

Posted Image

After some seconds the following message was displayed.

Posted Image

I clicked on Retry multiple times before clicking on Ignore.

After some more seconds the following message was displayed.

Posted Image

I clicked on Retry multiple times before clicking on Ignore.

Second and Last Post.

I then got a message indicating that Windows XP was required.

Posted Image

I clicked on the OK button after which the following message was displayed.

Posted Image

I clicked on the OK button and got the same message again as well as the message below.

Posted Image

I clicked on the Ignore button and got the message displayed below.

Posted Image

I clicked on the No button.

Now, I clicked on the OK button for the message indicating that an Entry Point could not be found for the iPod Service.

I needed to clicked on the OK button multiple times before the message disappeared.

Meanwhile the output, for setupit.cmd, had added the follwing.

I pressed the Enter key and the Output was updated with "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support>".

I tried starting iTunes and got the following message.

Posted Image

I clicked on OK and got the following message.

Posted Image

I clicked on OK but nothing more happened.

I tried restarting the PC but got the message you can see in the following image.

Posted Image

After 2 attempts, I was able to start the PC in Safe Mode.

I tried to remove iTunes and got the following message.

Posted Image

I then attempted to remove Apple Mobile Device Support but got the same message above.

The same occurred for Apple Application Support.

I restarted the PC again but this time using the option for Last Known Good Configuration.

After I logged on I got the following message.

Posted Image

Attaching the iPhone to a USB port causes the following message to be displayed and the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon to appear in the Task Manager bar.

Posted Image

However, at least the battery is being charged.

Double-Clicking on the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon opens the following window.

With regards to "dependency walker log file", are you referring to the following.

http://dependencywalker.com/

What is the "profiling start" you have referred to? Is that an option of the "Dependency Walker" program?
