Screenshot here.
On another site, somebody made a mock-up of the PDC Aero Demo, which I think looks really cool (except they kinda messed up the windows flag). What I want to know is, are there programs that can emulate start menu behaviour such as that? It strikes me as way more organized than one huge "All programs" folder. Now I know about programs like Object Desktop, but I haven't really used them a lot and the idea of having mini programs running all over my desktop drives me mad. It'd be great if anybody could make any suggestions.
On another note, I'd love to get my hands on the Director presentation Hillel Cooperman used at the PDC. Call me crazy, but I'd pay for it, even.
On this page, halfway down he says

Quote

"We use high fidelity prototypes in UI design, to go and test our software. We believe that Avalon, as a platform for building UI, is going to be so flexible that over time we're going to be able to do more prototyping right there. This, however, has been prototyped in Director."

I know what you mean. I'd rather them take their time, though. Just release a public beta to keep us busy and interested. :)
****, I really want a start menu like that. Don't make me write my own

Looks and works great! Do you have any further plans for this? This would make a beautiful addition to PE Builder!

Agreed a very nice app, I have seen "places" on the net that have tools to "help" with the avalon style apps.

@utln Thanks! Depending on how hard it is to rewrite the app and make it dynamic, I may turn it into a full program.

@likuikewl If you're talking about the Avalon Kit for XP combined with the Whidbey Alpha- the reason I don't want to program in that is because anyone who used the app would also need the Avalon Kit. And if that's not what you're talking about, then PM me or something, because I have no other guesses.

Update: Decided to continue with the project, at least for the time being. As far as how complete it is, it's like 30 % done. I'm looking for a project logo/icon, and I know exactly what I want it to be:
Posted Image
Anybody that can replicate that (and make it look authentic) wins a place in the credits section. I'm kinda screwed as far as the icon goes, as Visual Basic 6 only allows like 16 color icons or something. (It's really picky).

I think that was just an example to show what it would look like and how it would work.

Correct. The program has changed a lot since the proof-of-concept release. Once the project nears completion, I will research ways to intercept calls to the start menu and replace it with AeroStart. As of now, I don't want the program being that intrusive, and scaring people off :) Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I've been busy with real life projects lately- but I did take a look at the code I had already written. It's horrible. I need to completely rewrite the app. And uh, the links not broken. You have to right-click, save target as.
I may open this project up to the Dev Team, depending on what they think. It needs work, but I think it can turn out to be a handy Start Menu replacement.

I don't know if you'd want to pass the link to that file- the graphics have been updated and look a lot cleaner, and less childish. I can't say for sure if you can integrate it- the answer is most likely "Yes" but due to the fact that it's still in alpha stages, AeroStart's future is in the air. I'd love to see it integrated into your cd, though :)
