I use Windows 98, and mostly Firefox version 2.0.0.20 and I have the Java, but I can't seem to be able to update to the latest version of the Java.

I have version 1.6.0_06, and have been trying to install the update 17.

Any ideas?

I am confused how the Java updates work like the number updates I mean.

The last version of 1.6.0x that will install is 1.6.0_7 and there is a little trick you have to follow to install it.

You also have to have dotnet 1.1 or newer already installed to install this last version of Java 1.6.0_07.

I don't remember the details offhand as I stayed with the last version of the 1.5x series (1.5.0_22) since I figured it was newer, date wise than the 1.6.0_07 version.

Thanks, I think I will stick with the when I look at the Java settings I note that I can see many of the older versions such as 1.4 and 1.5, including the one you mentioned (1.5.0_22) my question now is do I need these older versions sitting there, and is it safe to delete them?

I think I will just stick with 1.6.0_06

I installed the version 1.5 (1.5.0_22) yesterday, would that have caused any problems being that I already had 1.6 installed?

There is a tool JavaRa that is available from --- http://raproducts.org

According to the website notes:
"JavaRa is a simple tool that does a simple job: it removes old and redundant versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)."

I have a copy of the tool on my PC but never had cause to use it as I prefer to uninstall the previous versions before installing the later version.

I still have 1.5.0.22 and never needed to update to the V. 1.6 so far.

Not sure about that prog, I prefer to use the add/remove programs for deleting files, and I wonder then if it's safe to delete the 1.3 to 1.5 updates by that method?

What I see in the add/remove program list is the following...let me know if this looks normal.

I did have the 1.5.0.22, but I got rid of it because I didn't think it was needed being that I have version 6.
