This is the last version of Opera that would install on my Win98SE machine.
Now that we got that thing clear, can you guys who are master @ tweaking/hacking/tips/tricks
etc.... help us get the best and ultimate performance out of this last official version.
Thanks

Most of the tweaks that are applicable to earlier versions of Opera still apply. Google will get you plenty of answers.

It really bothers me that people suggest google all the time.
If google had all the answers, I wouldn't be asking questions, now will I?
Google do not have all the answers so beware! Thanks for your reply but it was of no help.I'm aware of the ones from google but............

It amazes me that some people still need to be spoon-fed answers rather than look for themselves!!!

I ain't picking sides here, but the
sign on the welcome mat does say;

MSFN _ Where people go to know!

Not to mention, I can't tell you
how many times, people reply to questions
around here and drop hints that have saved
me countless hours of fruitless digging around.

If that were not enough, sometimes I just
enjoy some good engaging conversation about
one of my pet projects "Windows 98"

Cheers
Jake

This is my issue, before I come here and post a question I do a google search, as I said before
if google had all the answers I wouldn't be posting questions right? Aside from that
you guys get in our topic for no reason at all just to be pricks. If you are only going to suggest google
please don't post in my topic. dencorso and jaclaz are some of the best on here, they always provide links
and is always helping in some kind of way. To all you google suggesting people, take dencorso and jaclaz approach
if you can't help then stop sucking up the bandwidth please.

Cool, it works for you as well. Ugly black borders remain in the speed dial setting dialogs though, apparently it's not part of the skin but built into the software directly. :(

But why do we loose so much icons?? There is a lot that disappears, like the 'Window Speed Dial Icon', 'Caption Close', ...
A lot of buttons has now no more image. :(

Compare on this page, for instance: Opera 10 Skin Images

I am not sure I follow here. Do you mean elements are lost with/because of this fixed skin?

I made a first fix attempt which indeed screwed up a few things and perhaps I did upload that one by mistake... :w00t:

Let me know.

Just to clarify the thread title and the original post, Opera 10.54 is the last that works on unmodified Windows 98, not 10.60.
10.60 will only work with KernelEx installed.
:)

My mistake, I was wrong.
Icons are in place!

The only glitch is that the Start Toolbar has become very thick, and square.
Is there something to do for it?

Opera 10.60 definitely works with KernelEx, and could be the same for next versions :D

Only problem I think, is we can't run last Java Runtime Environment with it. :(

It is really perfect! :thumbup

The Start bar is exactly the same than before. Thanks a lot! :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

You should propose this fixed skin at the Opera forum, in the thread on Opera & Windows 98 : http://my.opera.com/...78699879&page=1

the thing is I have Opera 10.60 installed but it doesn't work correctly
so what I did was replace the Opera.dll from 10.54 and got it working without KernelEx.
So if you guys want me to change the title I will. dencorso do you think you can use your downgrade technique
for opera.dll 10.60 so we can replace it with 10.54. Sorry for the misunderstanding any/everyone.

No problem PC.
:)
The thing is, if you replace the opera.dll file from 10.60 with the one from 10.54, I don't think you've actually got Opera 10.60 anymore, as we said here.
Looking at the relative file sizes between the dll and the exe, it does seem likely that most of the code is in the dll.

If you want to run 10.60 properly, why not just install KernelEx?
I've recently done that, and everything is fine.
:)
