Ok, a new update to the skin for the tens of thousands of people who downloaded the previous version (lol). Fixed some big mistakes I made and everything is skinned now as far as I can see plus the problem of the black borders around the speed dial dialogs who bugged me a lot is resolved. It's very nice now I think and I encourage you to download it and give it a go. Should be a final version or almost now (hopefully).

Thanks. You should mention that it's installed in the main \Opera\skin directory, replacing the existing standard_skin.zip (I presume) as it's not intuitively obvious.

True, I didn't mention that and I should have. Thanks for pointing it out for the non-geeks out there.

Anyway the new version is ready. The only change is the file name and internal name so it can coexist with the original standard skin. It now can be (must be?) placed in the Opera/profile/skin directory and will need to be selected within Opera through the Appearance configuration dialog after installation.

That is right.
Not in the folder %WINDIR%\Application Data\Opera\OPERA\skin like any new skin,
because most of the other skins rely on the standard_skin to display correctly and need to find it at the correct place.

as I said, if you use another skin than the Standard Opera, and you want it to be corrected for Windows 98/Me also,
it is a better way to replace the original standard_skin.zip in the main directory (IMHO).

Thanks. I consider myself rather geeky but I'm fairly new to Opera and I haven't played around much with its config/prefs. My first inclination was to go to Appearance/Skin to switch skins to the new file but there was no option to do so. Opera kept wanting you to select and download a skin from a wide variety available online. I finally found the standard_skin.zip file in \Program Files\Opera\skin and then it became fairly evident how to do so.

Edit: Okay I just read the latest updated posts and now I'm confused. Do I still replace the standard_skin.zip file?

as I said, if you use another skin than the Standard Opera, and you want it to be corrected for Windows 98/Me also,

Probably true for some skins but not for all I think as I tried several other skins while having the standard replacement one in place and cosmetic glitches reappeared. I don't think the standard skin has the power to override elements of any other selected skin. As far as I know it is used only as a fallback for whatever elements that don't exist in an optional skin.

Anyway the two links are valid so you have the choice of replacing the standard skin or use the newest one as an optional skin only.

I pretty much did the new one with a view to submitting it to the Opera database where it will have to be an optional one I guess.

Edit: Also, having it as an optional skin does not require you to replace it each time you upgrade to a new version of the browser.

I am using the D.T.A. skin (= d_t_a_-9_9_10.zip) in which I have added a few icons for my personnal buttons
and it is running perfectly with your fix as 'standard_skin.zip'.

Actually, all the skins I have previously downloaded and kept are better with your fixed 'standard_skin.zip' in replacement of the original ,
even if some cosmetic glitches can reappears.
For example, tab thumbnails are always corrected, but the Speed dial dialog window not for each skin.

You could probably fix this yourself without much effort I guess simply by deleting the [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin] and [Speed Dial Global Configuration Dialog Skin] entries in the skin.ini file that is in the root dir of the zip of your affected skins.

Good to hear since I am not using 10.63.

I use 10.70 build 9050 and they've changed something in the layout of speed dial which makes that my skin is not displaying enough spaces between elements. I have been too busy/lazy (pick the right one) to look into it until now but I'll do eventually.
