I'm testing the pack and I can not get the dvd:s to play with windows mediaplayer 10/11. Does it work? MS dvd comp. check says the same error as wmp: No codec found. Mediaplayer classic plays dvd:s just fine, but I don't want to install anything more than codecs.

I also am having the same problem. On a fresh XP install with WMP11 and this codec pack, I cannot play DVDs using WMP11.
Any ideas?

No need to install: Just dont remove old Windows Media Player via nLite, rename mplayerc.exe to mplayer2.exe, modifype & cab it, then replace with mplayer2.ex_ in i386 directory :thumbup

Any chance of getting this pack updated?
Many components have been updated but this pack remains unchanged.

I have. It doesn't include the codecs in this pack (Indeo, M$ WMP 8,9,10, etc)

I'm going to give K-lite a shot.

There are a couple of problems I noticed with the 3.2 release.

You may download this fixed version

I reviewed and reuploaded the installer with Yzöwl's updated inf-file.
By abandoning on the cab-compressing, the installer could even get reduced in file size :)

(File version and download location remain the same -> see 1st page)

Hey m8 I noticed what could potentially be a coupla more problems with your inf plus I saw some room for improvement.

It installs faster with this inf and has a comfirmation box for the uninstall (no accidental uninstalls)
Please just look at it and give it a try.
There is still a little room for improvement I will polish it up more if you decide you like it.
I have liked your pack from the start and hope I can help improve it this way.
It no longer uses a variable for the codecs location, the inf defaults to the folder it is in.
Please ask any questions you want I know quite a bit about inf files.
They can do wonderfull magic.
Tested several x's on a live install and a svcpack style install.

Well 37pages is a lot to read so if this has been asked already sorry in advance.......but I was having this problem with 3.2 and I just tryed 3.3 and I get the same error :

Rename Error

An error occurred while renaming a file: "Cannot create a file when that file already exists." (error #183).

Current file name:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\l3codecx.ax

Any ideas??

Quick guess:
A previous version of the pack has not been uninstalled or has uninstalled incorrectly. The file l3codecx.old still exists and needs removing prior to the new install.

So yeah, installed this via inf on an already running system (vista 32bit). All but l3codecx.ax got copied, but it still didnt work with wmp11 and mpc. So i looked for an uninstall, but couldnt find any :( I also tried to manually delete the files but could only remove 15 or so files, and the control panel applets are still there but not working.

Suggestions?

To be honest with you, I've no idea if this pack is VISTA ready and it's been a long time since I looked at the installation to know whether it can be improved in that regard.

Any attempt to change the pack too much would be reasonably pointless due to the existence of the Vista Codec Package already available here.

Right, a second "Vista Codec Pack" would indeed be rather pointless.
Maybe I should rename this one here to "MSFN XP Codec-Pack" ;)

If you unzip the installer-exe (e.g. with WinRAR) you can easily find out, which files were added to your system32 directory. Control panel applets have an .cpl extension.
I guess Vista is really rather strict on admin rights. This might be the reason why it doesn't install properly...

Yeah, i realized that after checking the Vista forum and its codecpack (which didnt work either, but that could be because of this pack still being in there) :)

But i havent changed the pack whatsoever :/

Maybe XP in the name would be better :)
I tried to remove the files (copy into system32, they stay selected, shift+delete) but Vista complains about access on some files, i havent tried safemode yet tho.
I ran the codecpack with admin rights too, no dice :/.. ah well, safemode it is hopefully.. Thanks for a great XP pack tho :D

For those of you who want total codecs and constant updates...
checkout

Cole2k

Its pretty **** good. and silent parameters work like a dream.

I saw that you posted this in 2004, and was quite surprised that Cole2k.net isn't just still there, but is also up to date!

very nice...

The original post with the MSFN codec pack was edited recently, but it wasn't mentioned if the actual codec pack had been brought up to date, or if its still all codecs from 2004...
