Hi Yzöwl,

I understood that we're player independant too... Isn't it??? i'm surprtised we are NOT.

Anyway, I prefer NOT installing QT player, Real player neither.
On the other hand, i would keeping WMP10 and associate to it QT and real. WMP10 will RUN instead of Real and QT (handle Real/QT files).

If i use yr codecs.inf and codecs.cmd files, what option do ni choose? 1 or 5???

What if...
I decide installing/adding a new player like PowerDVD, ZoomPlayer, LightAlloy, RealAlternative... ???
or
installing QT and/Real later???
Do i have to add/modify codecs???

Regards
coucou

The files are player independent, i.e. no Real Player, QT Player, mplayerc or Zoom Player etc. are included. There are files included for playing Real and QT in your chosen player. My previous comment about being independent, was due to an odd entry in the regs for Zoom Player, although it hasn't been removed in my inf, it will not come to any harm, but will be there if you ever do use Zoom Player in the future.

The files are set to use Windows Media Player, without modification. (just check it's location on your system with the location used in the editable lines at the end of the inf first.)

You need to choose option 1.

If you wish to add a player at a later date, don't add Real Alternative or QuickTime Alternative. They will only really install Media Player Classic on top of what you already have. You will just be as well off downloading, Media Player Classic yourself, it doesn't need installing, just put the executable wherever you want. To register it with all video files, start it, go to Options and check the box, 'all video'.

It can of course also be done in a similar way with any other player you decide to use at a later date.

Hope this helps!

Is there a way to tell if any of these codecs will conflict with themselves or the codecs that come with Windows? Some of these I know I'll need, others I am not so sure of.

If I'm installing Real & Quicktime Alternative, I don't need version 2.2, right?

So is v1.3 available for downloading somewhere?

Thanks.

I have 'tweaked' a v2.2 codecs pack to a 'v2.3' WinRAR self-extractor to include the xvid 1.03 files.

This can be run as a switchless installer OR the 'classic' method of placing the files in system32 as stated on 1st page of this topic.

If anyone is interested PM me. - Anyone care to host a 17MB file? :rolleyes:

a self-extracting SFX would be nice. here's how i did it with last version:

create an SFX archive using this comment:
;The comment below contains SFX script commands

Path=%systemdrive%\WINDOWS\System32
SavePath
Silent=1
Overwrite=1

and run codecs.cmd afterwards.

You can run codecs.cmd using winRAR sfx:
Just add:

setup=codecs.cmd

to the comment.

Would it be difficult to modify the .cmd file to install only Divx, Real Player, and Quicktime? I'd love to go and delete what I don't need, but I don't know what I DO need :}

It wouldn't be that difficult :D

But you also have to edit the codecreg.reg
Just keep everything with "divx".
