Vista 32 Ultimate SP2
C:\Windows\winsxs\Temp\pendingrenames is 55.5-MB and 2665 files. This folder has had many files in it for the last month. The system has been restarted many times but they remain. Two days ago the system crashed and about a thousand more files were added. Event Viewer showed no error for the crash though an error message did appear on a black screen during the crash.
Ran chkdsk and no problems were found.
Is it safe to delete these files? It does not appear that the system is doing anything with them.

Thanks for your reply. I am having the same problem described in the posts by cmeredith3005 of that thread. About 2600 files total and about 800 added. Windows Update works just fine and no problem with system starts. The CBS.log file has many references to files in the pendingrenames folder (I am guessing every file). I clear CBS.log, run sfc /scannow, and then have a CBS.log file of 17,350 lines (~883,000 characters). Something just isn't right and the thread that you referenced just ends with cmeredith3005 explaining the problem but no one responds with any solution. Obviously, editing registry lines to 2600 files is not realistic.
I am open to any ideas. Thanks again.
