Windows 7 Toolkit v1.3.0.46A (2-Sep-2011)

Recommended Posts

I wonder, is the tool capable of creating unattneded.xml for multiboot OS (x86 and x64)?

At this time I think not software can do that, but W7T can do an Autounattend.xml!

v1.3.0.30 can do that when it's released, just select "AnyCPU" in the list :)

Thanks mate I will try your tool, though I have never tried your tool but now it sounds interesting to me. I would like to have more components for removal. I like my OS to be lite and fast.

Sorry, can anyone provide an honest and unbiased assessment in comparing between Windows 7 Toolkit, RT 7 Lite and vLite? I realize that each software has its own pros and cons. Can Windows 7 Toolkit perform what RT 7 Lite can do, and achieve a very slimmed-down stable image?

In term of component removal, which software can remove more components?

No ill intention is intended. I just want to know what the best tool is. :)

Thank you for the information.

Thank you for the information,

If you are talking about component removal I still like vlite, it is fast and easy to use. RT7lite is also good but it still have too many bugs. And Toolkit has very less components in the list to remove. But if you can get vlite work on sp1 I think you should go with vlite.

However, the key thing to remember is that Windows 7 Toolkit is being actively developed, and is taking, and implementing, user's requests on practically a daily basis. If you would like it to do something, go make a request over on the forum at Wincert. If it can be done, then there is an excellent chance it will be, and soon. I don't think that can be honestly said for either of the other tools.

Cheers and Regards

@nice_guy75

Thanks for your summary. Is your method of using vLite primarily based on dead0's guide?

@bphlpt

I agree with what you said regarding Windows 7 Toolkit. The problem is that it does not remove components as many as RT 7 Lite. And, I don't think that I can make this request, which is not in line with Legolash2o's original intention.

He really isn't going to add more as the way he removes things are the dism way, NOT the hack way.

i.e. DISM only allows for removal of packages and is kinda limited.

Plus he is not trying to compete with vLite or rt7lite...

I am sure that some of us would like to have smallest Windows image as possible, without overly affecting its stability.

I understand what you are saying, but if I were you, I'd ask. Kel's post you quoted was over two months ago, Lego has allowed 22 requests since then and has not locked the topic. He plans to work on a lot of the outstanding requests during these next few weeks while his school is getting ready to start up. The worst he can say is "No". If enough people make the same or similar requests, he will probably either figure out a way to do it, or clarify what he can/will do and what he can't/won't. It can't hurt to ask.

I am sure that some of us would like to have smallest Windows image as possible, without overly affecting its stability.

If you add - "and usability" - I think you can add even more people who would agree with you, especially as long as the removals are optional and under the user's control.

Cheers and Regards

@ alvinkhorfire no mate, I have actually integrated sp1 by reverse integration and then I used vlite and it worked like charm.

If you do not want to use my method you better use export tab and export the desired version of Windows 7 if there are more than one images in install.wim, if there is only one image just export it to the new location and then change the wim. I am sure it would work flawlessly.
