HFSLIP, Windows 2000 and 'Service Pack 5' Hotfixes

71 posts in this topic

In the end I have in fact added those 'SP5' hotfixes to the Windows 2000 Updates page although, at least for the time being, this change has not been made to the page that's currently living at FDV's website. It's here, instead:

Windows 2000 Updates.

This is an update of the page at FDV's site. The lists contain and take into account WildBill's unofficial updates, and many hotfixes that are obtainable from Microsoft on request.

The latter hotfixes mostly update files from Service Pack 4 and the Update Rollup 1.

Unofficial updates are distinguished from the older updates that they supersede, making it clear for those who either prefer to use or omit those updates.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Edit: updated the URL for the Windows 2000 Post-SP4 Updates for HFSLIP page.

Any...?

Ehy, bristols! Look in the title bar, the box "Windows 2000 Updates (HFSLIP)" doesn't turn purple on mouse move!!! :P

Well, aside from my joke, your page is very clear and the work is great, thank you for your effort!

About the update page: I need help, I got confused.

The entry SCRIPTEN.CAB (IE6sp1 component, the ita cab is named SCRIPTIT.CAB) is stated as `Script 5.6'. The issue is I am slipstreaming just Script 5.7 components/updates and there are several warnings about mixing different versions.

So, if I just want Script 5.7, can I skip SCRIPTEN(SCRIPTIT).CAB?

Thanks, but can you tell us more?

How did you get it? The only mention I see of this update for Windows 2000 is here:

http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-21601

Here it's called windows2000-kb982132-x86-custom-enu.exe. Is this what you have?

I don't remember where it came from, I know it doesn't contain any viruses.

I download so much stuff and back it up some stuff I have i don't even need.

I can send it to you if you want.

I just integrated KB820227 but Hidserv.exe is not installed, although I see it is (compressed into Hidserv.ex_) on the CD.

Maybe is some modification to .inf required in order to get it into windows' folder?

So this is new hfslip checker for wk.

http://zalil.ru/30821903

Few words about your update page please fix this:

what about KB979902 and KB979332 are these obsolete or no?

Please remove KB924432 from requested hotfixes list :)

Do we need ocsasnfix.exe for KB974571?

Later i will publish big post about DX, but for now if you want to use June 2010 updates please download dxupdate.cab and replace.

Thanks very much for taking the time. :)

what about KB979902 and KB979332 are these obsolete or no?

979332 requires an encoder to be installed in addition to WMP9 (to my knowledge it is not part of an ordinary WMP9 installation). As such and on balance, I decided that the update is outside the scope of the Updates page. Thanks to this post by -X- for the information.

Please remove KB924432 from requested hotfixes list :)

924432 contains the latest versions for Windows 2000 of rpcss.dll (5.0.2195.7116) and ole32.dll (5.0.2195.7103 - when not installing WildBill's unofficial 979687, although I believe WildBill's fix is based on an earlier build of ole32.dll than this 'SP5' update).

Do we need ocsasnfix.exe for KB974571?

Well, I guess the best answer I can give to that is "it depends". On the updates page I point out that this update has issues, and link to the Knowledge Base article for 974571 for people to make their own judgement.

About KB924432 - i mean not "remove" but just "move in another place" because its not very convenient to download requested hotfixes and accidentaly start downloading optional junk :) place it for example before windows 3.1 installer or somewhere else.

Thanks for information about 979332.

And now big post about DX.

1. If you are choosing "True" official installer. So you download dx feb2010 redist, unpack it, remove x64 cabs and that's all. No that isn't all!!

1.1: "True" official installer doesn't support Xact, Xinput, X3DAudio cab archives - so you can remove them from dx folder in any case :) this thing already included in my checklist.

1.2: "True" official installer support June 2010 archives. If you don't believe that it is true official just download dxwebinstaller from p.2 and try it. If you want to install them you have to download new dxupdate.cab and replace the old one. Then you can download June 2010 redist or i have direct links to this cab in p.2

2. There is another way to install Official updates. I mean using webinstaller hints. By the way we can save 3 mb of free space :), we can make localized version of DirectX and we can understand how exactly works dx install.

Unfortunately i can't find any repository of microsoft dxwebinstallers: all over in internet only direct links into microsoft.

Fortunately I've got some old version that is working Websetup 09.04.2009 Maybe someone has newer version of it that are working on w2k???

2.1. Firstly we have to download all necessary cabs that we need. Here is the list of them:

_http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/0/D/80D7E79D-C0E4-415A-BCCA-E229EAFE2679/ and add cab name at the end. So if you need another localization just change eng in the end.

2.2. Second necessary thing you need - it is one very important file named filelist.dat This is just text file. For english version it looks like^

Unfortunately i don't know how to localize this file easy. Maybe someone helps me.

2.3. Now just place this files in one folder and run dxsetup.exe :)

3. Non-official steps:

3.1. If you are searching for easy ways just download BlackWingCat installer.

3.2. But this installer need for replace msvcrt.dll and dsound.dll - to my mind it is not very good, maybe HFSLIP doesn't need it? I don't exactly understand how it slipstream cab files.

3.3. We need these 2 dll's cause we need to install repacked cab files such as xinput cabs etc. There is new dxupdate.dll and dsetup32.dll for installing "bad" cabs and these dll's need msvcrt.dll and dsound.dll.

3.4. But there is all Xact, Xinput, X3DAudio cab archives now accessible for w2k

3.5. And two words for msyuv.dll and quartz.dll: these 2 dll's are updated in other dx updates. And two needs HFSVCPACK_SW1 folder (but this isn't good i guess) 975560 & 975562 - and one of them need fix... so so much problems. I don't understand why microsoft doesn't include fixes for it in webinstaller (they are so lazy).

I was trying just replace them in official directx release but i can't find a way to make it. In blackwingcat installer this 2 dlls have strange versions: Quartz.dll 6.05.2600.5933 Japanese and MSYUV.DLL 5.3.2600.5908 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.091127-0541) Why first dll is Japanese? Why second dll is from xp sp3? I can't understand it - i understand only one that it is working and doesn't need 975560 & 975562 next.

Here new filechecker for win2k

http://www.multiupload.com/AZCG3W2PXP

Some changes and tips: 974571 is installed only if we have oscanfix.exe in HVSVCPACK_SW1

RDC replaced with reg file

almost all new updates is included

and some questions to bristols:

KB976323 - where we can take this SMTP? Link that you provide just describe what it is but no words about where it can be downloaded from.

KB838018 - the same question about front page extensions. It seems that link is incorrect.

KB2507618 - probably it is question for WildBill but link just is broken...

And link to the new FDV fileset ( I just add new explorer.exe and replace sfc.dll with the new one)

SMTP and Front Page Extensions are both available on the Windows 2000 installation CD.

That was my mistake. Thanks for letting me know. I corrected this link, and also the link to information about Front Page Extensions, and updated the Windows 2000 Post-SP4 Updates for HFSLIP page.

Guys, I need your help just about bristols' updates page.

Well, I've been away from these pages for some weeks and, of course, in the meanwhile the updates page was... updated

Now, I already own many of the listed hotfixes but how can I say which one has been replaced since then? And which one has been added?

I mean, is there a fast/easy way to detect just the new/replaced hotfixes instead of checking them all one by one?

How do you guys do this? Do you use the 2k file checker? (I can't because my hotfix collection is stored in a set of subdirectories with custom names while my HF\ dir is usually empty)

Unfortunately the best way is probably to check the updates from bristols' page one by one :(

AKuHAK has updated the file-checker for W2K, based on bristols list. The last modification was made on 17.May.2011. Probably someone can update this W2K-list of the file-checker to the current state of bristols list.

Yes... you both are very active! :) But in general it's the same duration for updating the list (and run the file-checker with this) in comparison to check every file manually.

Probably I can help... But I have no knowledge about the W2K-updates :(

Here you go:

Goes back as far as February.

Hope it helps. :)

brutus1234,

I'm getting finished with the basic version of Update Rollup 2 for Win2k... would you perhaps be interested in making the Italian version too? The only thing you would have to do its to supply me (upload somewhere) an archive with Italian language updates (official updates only). It's just too time consuming for me to download them one by one. If you do it for me, then it's very easy to make an Italian version of the Rollup.

Please answer if you're interested. I'll give you a list of updates that are needed (around 90 files).

Of course I can provide a comprehensive hotfix package and host it on an external site (it will require some time, though).

Just let me read that list! :thumbup (I just had a look at them... my actual hotfix list counts more than 200 files, more than twice your 90 ones... maybe I'm making some mistake... )

Now, what do you exactly mean with a "update rollup"? If I remember well it is a single exe/msi file, ready to be installed/slipstreamed in just a single step, isn't it?
