Office 2000 in Win XP Home

Recommended Posts

Hiya I'm running MSOffice 2000 in Win XP Home and have recently installed the SP1 and SP2 patches. Since doing this MS Word and Excel no longer work, I can open the program and even a blank document comes up but within seconds the program shuts down.

The WinXP is preinstalled on my new pc and office 2000 is a registered version from work (totally legit :)). I downloaded the patches from MS update.

Any ideas?

Cheers

WEll close enough.....

Dodger, i had the same exact problem as you did, unfortunitly i found no cure :wail:

But you might want to uninstall office and update one by one, meaning do the sp1 update then restart and see if it works, then exectue the Sp2 update and try to find what particular update is messing it up...

Goodluck...sorry i couldent be of more help

Dodger- do you get any error when it shuts down? And was 2000 installed after XP or XP installed with 2000 already on your PC? I installed XP as a upgrade one time with 2000 on and it gave me promblems....I know i did a format and install 2000 afterwards and only did updates for officefrom the download catologe instaed of installing all of SP1 and 2 and it worked fine then. Sometimes SP version add promblems instead or fixin them...go figure.

No I got a new pc with win XP pre-installed then installed office 2000 and this worked fine. I installed the SP1 and SP2 by going to the Microsoft update website and since then kaput!

There are no error notices when it shuts down and I have looked around but can't find any error logs or scripts anywhere.

I did notice that when I was installing the service packs that it gave an error notice that one of the .tmp files couild not be updated as it had previously been up-dated (how I don't know!) but didn't think much of it at the time as the install seemed to proceed without any further hitch.

ok update, uninstalled office 2000 pro (or premium as it calls itself) using install CD, re-booted, then reinstalled. Flawlessly! Still get same problem - program (word, excel, powerpoint) starts opens wizard and is stable, any attempt to open new document and program closes after about a second.

I'm soooo baffled.

Got rescue disks for my PC - mebbe just reformat and reinstall everything is the way to go? Seems a bit drastic to me?

Anyone got OfficeXP? and a VLK :) (joke! - well ish!)

Well rathger then ding all that drastic stuff, i would just run Office without the updates... I mean it works pretty well, and if you cant afford Office xp that seems to be the best way to get around alot of wasted time and alot of spent money. If we cant figure it out here, i would contact Mirco$lut and see if they are willing to fix the problem....

Goodluck
