I have created a cusom pe build using pe1.2 and winxp (slipstreamed with SP1) using the mkimg.cmd file and instructions from the winpe.chm file on the winpe cd.

I have the folder that was outputed and have created folders within this distribution point (ie winxp so I can launch an xp install from within winpe).

Problem is I cant create an ISO. I have tried using setupldr.bin as the bootsector but it just hangs in vmware. What am I doing wrong? I am using cdimage pro to build the iso images.

Please help, I have spent hours on this and it is driving me nuts. :)

Thanks

Paul

The setupldr.bin isn't a bootsector file (from what I understand). Just try a xp bootsector. just search google for xp.bin or use an iso program to extract it from your xp cd.

According to the Windows OPK tools documentation, the command is run like this -

mkimg.cmd [Source File] [Destination File] [Target Destination for Image]

So for example -

mkimg.cmd c:\XPSP1 c:\winpe c:\winpe.iso

You can add optional switches like /pnp after to enable plug and play support in WinPE.

In order to successfully build the ISO, these files need to be in the same directory as your WinPE build directory -

oscdimg.exe
etfsboot.com
factory.exe
netcfg.exe

If you already have a WinPE destination built, then you would use the oscdimg.exe command.

For example -

oscdimg.exe -lWinPE -h -n -betfsboot.com -o c:\WinPE c:\winpe.iso

Hope this helps. :)

Above info is helpful but if you need an example of the command line useage look at this thread, http://www.MSFN.org/...showtopic=14952 , Also just download and use the CD_Image_pro hosted here @ MSFN, http://unattended.MS...CDImage_Pro.zip, this file contains the xpboot.img and the same command line utility included with PE and also it has a well written easy to edit batch file.

thanks for the help so far chaps. The only problem I have now is with Diskpart.
Trying to create the disk in vmware. I have allocated 2.0gb to vmware but when I run vmware and run diskpart, it comes up with :

On COmputer: MININT-VEUN1B

the cursor then disapears adn i never get a prompt. All i can do is control+C to break out.
If i boot the ds on my pc it works fine, just not in vmware. I need it to run in vmware so I can test it all (obviously dont want to wipe my pc!)

Anyone else had this problem? Help please! Im so close to my first build pe xp build disk i can smell i :)

THanks

PAul

Some examples:
Example Script.txt:

Select disk 0
clean
Create partition primary
Active
Assign letter = C
Exit

Now that the drive has been partitioned we need to format the primary
partition that the Operating System will be installed to. The following
script will run Diskpart and it's script and then format the C: drive.

Example partition.cmd:

diskpart /s %CDROM%\i386\script.txt
format c: /fs:ntfs /q /y

As always you can edit it for your system.

I think the reason diskpart hangs, is cos it can't find any drives.

This happened to me with my SATA mobo, when I got the drivers to work, diskpart worked.

Install some files on the drive using another program and then see if you can read them from PE

How can I add files, if I cant partition the disk in VMware? It doesnt have direct access to my physical disk, it has its own virtual one :)
