I can understand part of that story but not about the movie example. I do not know any movie players that will read a video file missing its header information...

VLC can do it with avi, mkv, wmv, mp4 but it might not work with all video containers.
Anyway that's why you should always buy items with warranty at real shops.

I took some time and browsed through the comments; apart from a few not really tasteful statements about Chinese people, that's exactly what some of the people were talking about. My favourite was

Well they did say they got it cheap. Its either a "you get what you pay for" or "it didn't cost that much so who cares" type of situation.
