So is this the right order after a 3.5 SP1 install?

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB958481-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB979909-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB2518864-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB2572073-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB2633880-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB2656352-x86

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 KB958483-x86

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB958484-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB963707-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB982168-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB982524-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB2657424-x86

(+3.5 SP1 Language pack)

I would probably make an add-on, or integration to XP install, as installing 3.5 SP1 with its KB alone takes up more than half an hour to complete.

Hi,
I have same KB like you, except :
- KB953595 (old update ? because files in this KB are oldest that the files present in my system)
- KB977354-v2 (old update ? I think not necessary)

I also have :
NDP20SP2-KB976569 (if you have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and 4.0)

KB953595 and KB977354-v2 are in Explorer09's list in his post, that's why I added them

He also mentioned about NDP20SP2-KB976569 being superseeded by KB2572073 in this other post.

So, what should we do?

Hi,
- I found on the net that KB982524 supersede KB977354(-v2), but I can't confirm (no info on microsoft website)
- KB953595 definitively not necessary
- I can't confirm that KB976569 being superseeded by KB2572073 (no info on microsoft website)

Microsoft tend to not mention the update replacement if the 2 updates are in different category. For example, KB2572073 is a security update while KB976569 is not, but if you compare the file versions you'll see that one update supersedes the other.

Files KB976569 version | KB2572073 version
mscordacwks.dll: 2.0.50727.3607 (GDR) | 2.0.50727.3625 (GDR)
mscordacwks.dll: 2.0.50727.4413 (LDR) | 2.0.50727.5681 (LDR)
mscorlib.dll: 2.0.50727.3607 (GDR) | 2.0.50727.3625 (GDR)
mscorlib.dll: 2.0.50727.4413 (LDR) | 2.0.50727.5681 (LDR)
SOS.dll | 2.0.50727.3625 (GDR)
SOS.dll: 2.0.50727.4413 (LDR) | 2.0.50727.5681 (LDR)
mscorwks.dll: 2.0.50727.3607 (GDR) | 2.0.50727.3625 (GDR)
mscorwks.dll: 2.0.50727.4413 (LDR) | 2.0.50727.5681 (LDR)

For the KB982524 update, you should manually extract the contents in the EXE file, then notice the file NDP30SP2-KB977354.msp exists.

And hj_fr is right about KB953595. Yes, it is unnecessary because it's an optional hotfix. I'll correct the list.

EDIT: I was wrong again. It's not just an optional hotfix. The reason KB953595 is unnecessary is because it is included in the installer of .NET 3.5 SP1.

thank you! I finally didn't make the silent installer because the SNM tool is outdated and requires some modifications that I unknow. Also I'm not sure whether it would shorten the .net installation time since I read it just executes at T-13 install (so no real slipstream is performed in any case).

I post the updated list:

(Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1) (with this you don't need v1.0)
(Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 KB867460-X86)
(Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 KB2572067-X86)
(Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 KB2604044-X86)

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (autoinstalls 2.0 SP2, and 3.0 SP2, 3.5 SP1 too)

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB958481-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB979909-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB2604092-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB2656352-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 KB2656369-x86

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 KB958483-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 KB977354-v2-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 KB982168-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 KB2604110-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 KB2656407-x86

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB958484-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB953595-x86 (can't find)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB963707-x86 *(includes NET Framework Assistant 1.0 for Firefox)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB982524-x86 (also includes a fix for .NET 2.0)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB2604111-x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB2657424-x86

(+3.5 SP1 Language pack if wished)

(Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0)
(patch list to do)

edit: fixed two 3.5 entries that were really 3.0, below, updated list.

Now I stumbled over this post in Wincert, it has more hotfixes than my list, I wouldn't care less if they were not old hotfixes as they seem, I list them:

2.0 SP2
KB976569 - Update for the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 forward compatibility
KB976576 - Rollup Update
KB976765 - ASP.NET update
KB980773 - NCL update
KB2789643 - Vulnerabilities in .NET Framework Could Allow Elevation of Privilege

3.0 SP2
KB976570 - Forward Comptibility Update
KB976769 - WCF update

3.5 SP1
KB960043 - Dual Branch Servicing

Maybe someone can verify whether they are required or not (ie. non critical).

The difference between "updates" and "hotfixes" is that the former fix security issues while the latter fix bugs. Also M$ don't test hotfixes as thoroughly as they test updates.
