Hi There.

I have to install some hardware in this case some officeJet AIO and LaserJet from HP.

My problem is that when I install the first hardware devices new hardware pops up in the Device Manager which is good but the associated "FOUND NEW HARDWARE" dialog is not so good.

So my guestion is simply:

Is it posible to turn it off for at moment while installing some hardware and then put it back on when done?

Im installing via VBScripts and SMS. I use the MS tool DEVCON.EXE to install the hardware via the INF files.

I tried searching but didnt find anything so I posted the question. Also posted a similar question in the Windows XP forum as I realized that I had put it in the wrong place.

Having see that thread do you perhaps remember some key words that I can use to track down that thread?

Or even better: Do you remember if it was posible or not? I have tried to stop the Plug and Play service but that had some rather bad side effects as in not finding any hardware at all.

hmm im interested to see whether there is a thread on this.. as i have a webcam that doesnt have XP drivers made for it.. and because of that, the "found new hardware" appears every boot.. even if i try using different drivers..

I found a solution to my problem
I just log of the user before launching my installer script. Then the dialog wont pop up and when the user logs back on again the device will be installed. Easy really.

To Doggie:
I might have a solution for that. If you are familiar with doing registry tricks you can propubly find the device under det key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum

Here there are keys thats named after which port the device is on eg. if its an USB device it should be under the USB key and printerport under LPTENUM.
Under det port key should be a hardwareID key and one of them might be your cam. When you find your cam there should be another key under the hardwareID key which has some variavbles under it. Find the ConfigFlags key and check if it reads a value of 400. If it does that might be the device that keeps poppping up at reboot. Setting that variable to 0 will stop it from asking for drivers at boot.
