I did succesfully install Java 7 a little while ago but it was non-functional unfortunately, the java executables crashing systematically on trying to execute any jar file so I reverted to Java 6.

Bad news with Opera 12 as well, the latest build (RC1) has a fix for plugins not working in Windows 2000 but it now freezes the whole OS on launch, forcing to reboot. :}

Oh well, I guess I'll have to stick with Java 6 on Windows 98 then.
Very bad news about Opera 12, I hope some way around this can be found once it's released and we know how bad the problem actually is in the final version.
I really don't want to have to use two different versions of Opera on my two operating systems!
:(

I've  installed Opera 12 build 1448. It doesn't freeze my OS, but the plugins still don't work. Opera starts with an error message: Opera plugin wrapper caused an error in user.exe. Opera plugin wrapper will now closed. BTW: In spite of that Opera plays youtube videos.

user.exe version 4.90.0.3001

I was wondering if a new version of KernelEx could solve this 'issues' ?

Interesting, same user.exe version here, I have RP9 installed which interacts with it so that may be why I get a freeze. More interesting is that you can use the flash plugin despite the plugin wrapper shutting down.

A new version of KernelEx could solve many issues but the question is: Is there ever going to be a newer version of KernelEx?

I don't think chances are very high for that happening but hopefully I am wrong.

Interesting, same user.exe version here,  I have RP9 installed which interacts with it so that may be why I get a freeze. More interesting is that you can use the flash plugin despite the plugin wrapper shutting down.

I also have RP 9.7.2 installed. Also older versions of Opera can play you tube videos with disabled plugins. Version 10.1 can't do this, but 10.63 can (HTML5).

Same RP version so not sure why I freeze and you just crash.

I've removed the plugin wrapper and gave it a quick test run but it doesn't work well here, some pages I visit regularly without any issues with 11.64 wont load at all (eBay) and some other load but are completely unresponsive (youtube). :}

On the positive side I can see myself using 11.64 for a few more years. B)

I've installed Opera 12 build 1448 on a second computer and it seems to work stable so far. Ebay pages are loading fine, too. I can't add buttons to the toolbars and of course the plug-ins doesn't work (plugin wrapper caused an error in user.exe). Did you install the same build from the same page?

KerneEX 4.5.2 (4.5.12)

Yeah, it's build 1448 too. I haven't installed it though, I just unpacked the installer but that shoudn't make a difference. Really not sure why I have got so many issues with this 12 version. I also can't add buttons by drag and drop, I have just checked that out. :}

The problem appears to be down to the regutils.dll in the cab file that needs a new function from Kernel32.dll. I have rebuild that cab with the regutils.dll from update 31 and edited the msi with orca because the resulting cab file had an invalid signature. Doing that it only partially installs and must be completed by hand after which it seems to be working OK, tested briefly on a couple of apps I have on disk and on a couple of online applets with K-Meleon.

Grab it here: http://www.4shared.c...6u32_fixed.html

Run the msi installer and once it's done, copy the files in the "Copy 2 Windows" folder to your Windows folder and the one in the "Copy 2 System" folder to your System folder overwriting the files already in place which still are the old ones. Finally merge the registry file after making sure the paths it contains are also your paths, otherwise adjust them before merging. Once all this is done done it should work OK.

Hi loblo.
:hello:
I've just tried installing your modified version of Java 6 update 32, and it's failing all the time.
It just rolls back and says the install could not be completed and please try later.
It's not getting as far as writing any files to the disk.
There are no messages from the installer to say why it's failed, but in the Windows Temp folder, the java_install_reg.log says -

-- QueryCurMSIValue: Open failed.
-- Exec: QueryCurMSIValue(INSTALLDIR) failed.

The jusched.log says -

Sat Jun 09 13:59:13 2012
:: MSICheckPendingFileRenameOperations: RegOpenKeyEx() failed with ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND: 2, Error Code: 0

And the msievent.log just says -

09/06/12 13:59:20 (Info ) Product: Java™ 6 Update 32 -- Installation operation failed.

Any idea what's going wrong?
I've tried installing to the default folder and to a custom folder with the same result.
I also uninstalled the previous version and cleaned out all its files and registry entries.
I have the most recent version of KernelEx installed, and Java 6 update 31 installs and works fine.
Thanks, Dave.
:)

Sorry Dave I have no clue at all however you've got all that's needed to install it by hand I would think. I guess you would just need to extract the cab file and copy its content into the java folder and then use the included folders and reg file to complete the install.

Thanks loblo.
Just wanted to report that your modified version will not install on Windows XP either.
It does exactly the same thing with the same error logs, so it's not a Windows 98 or KernelEx problem.
I suspect something is amiss with your modified installer file.
I'll have a look at it with Orca and see if I can spot anything wrong.
Presumably it did install on your system OK?
:)

Yes it did install OK apart from the files to go in windows and system and the registry entries (as mentioned in my initial post which includes the link to the modified installer). I have just been rechecking some executables and jars in the program files/Java/JRE6 subfolders and they were all update 32 and all that's in there has been copied by the installer.

Thanks again loblo.
I tried installing with the original msi file and your modified cab file, and as expected I got an error message about the cab file not being digitally signed.
I've tried to compare your modified msi file with the original msi file, using Orca, but I'm having trouble spotting any differences!
Could you tell me exactly what you changed in the msi file?
Thanks, Dave.

You're on your own, good luck. :)

Java 6: The Bug doesn't seem to be fixed with update 33. Bug ID 7166889

The msi installer doesn't work and the Dependency Walker still shows this error.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :

The Installer failed on Windows 2000 on unzipcore fase.

Because Data1.cab\regutils.dll includes GetSystemWow64DirectoryA in kernel32.dll

I decided eventually to just stick with update 31!
I'll wait and hope that KernelEx is eventually updated to support later versions of Java 6, or indeed Java 7.
