Hi all,

I am having an issue with the netsh.exe utility in WinPE 3.0 that I was hoping you could shed some light on.

So by default, when I type
netsh wlan
it cannot find the 'wlan' switch.

I added the following .dll files and added an entry to the registry to utilize that dll in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\NetSh

"dhcpclient"="dhcpcmonitor.dll"
"wshelper"="wshelper.dll"
"4"="rasmontr.dll"
"2"="ifmon.dll"
"netiohlp"="netiohlp.dll"
"wlan"="wlancfg.dll"

Above is what I now have in that NetSh folder in the registry.

Now when I type
netsh wlan
the command is found, but I am getting an error which I have never seen before.

The error I am seeing is as follows:
Error 15105 in FormatMessageW()

The linked image is a screenshot of just typing 'netsh wlan', and then below in the screen is where I type 'netsh wlan show profiles'

I hope you can help me out. Thanks in advance!

System Error Codes

ERROR_MUI_FILE_NOT_LOADED
15105 (0x3B01)

Do have added the respected .mui files for these dll's you added?

ex.

\Windows\system32\wlancfg.dll

does require

\Windows\system32\en-US\wlancfg.dll.mui

That worked like a charm!!

Thank you so much.

Been pulling my hair out thinking that it was another .dll file that i was missing.

I appreciate your help!

Sorry to bump an old topic, but I have a Dell KACE K2000 box, which uses WinPE as the PXE Boot agent.

I've tried what you've suggested. I've mounted the boot.wim, put all those dll files in the system32 folder, unmounted and booted up. Upon boot, I run "regedit", and add the "wlan" to the registry.

But after adding the registry "wlan", when I do "netsh wlan", it shows:

The following helper DLL cannot be loaded: WLANCFG.DLL

When I do "netsh add helper wlancfg.dll", it shows the same error. I have wlancfg.dll in the system32 folder where I'm running this from.

Any ideas? We have a ton of computers that we just moved to wireless, and being able to image some over wireless is getting to be necessary for us.

Which WinPE are you using? This was for WinPE 3.0 which didn't have wireless support. In the WAIK for Windows 7 SP1 you can get the WinPE 3.1 which has native support for wireless. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet tho.
