I think Alanoll is asking where you get it online.

Hi, All!

I've heard very positive opinions about XPCreate and yesterday I gave it a try without knowing I was trying an updated version ;-) Everything was great, and I'd like to thank the creator of the program for excellent job! I've got a couple of minor questions, though, and I hope someone's got answers.

After the installation the OS loads in the classic theme. Is it the way it is supposed to be? Also, Standarts and Formats in Regional Options are United Kingdom. Is it by design? Another question is about the CD Key. I haven't found how to enter mine during the compilation, so I got 12345 in all fields during the installation. This is not a big deal, but I'm just curious how to get the right CD Key in place.

I've got XP Pro En with the following updates used for the compilation
Spacks\
  xpsp1a_en_x86.exe
Svc-hf1\
  WindowsXP-KB829558-x86-ENU.exe
  WindowsXP-KB828035-x86-ENU.exe
  WindowsXP-KB828028-x86-ENU.exe
  WindowsXP-KB826942-x86-ENU.exe
  WindowsXP-KB826939-x86-ENU.exe
  WindowsXP-KB825119-x86-ENU.exe

  WindowsXP-KB821253-x86-ENU.exe
  WindowsXP-KB820291-x86-ENU.exe
  WindowsXP-KB810217-x86-ENU.exe
  WindowsMedia-KB828026-x86-ENU.exe
  Q815021_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe
  Q814995_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe
  Q811114_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe
  Q810243_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe
  Q327979_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe

Svc-hf2\
  Q832894.exe
  q330994.exe

SVC-MDC\
  ENU_Q832483_MDAC_x86.EXE
SVC-SWF\
  swflash.cab
SVC-X2M\
  MBSASetup-en.msi
  dotnetfx.exe

with the rest of the directories empty or by default. BTW, is dotnetfx still have to be installed on the system in order to get everything done?

Thanks for your attention.

@VAD: First off, welcome to MSFN. Perhaps I will put a map on the site with the different countries XPCREATE has seen!

Second, all the problems mentioned stem from the WINNT.SIF file that I mistakenly added to the XPCREATE distribution. I'm glad I put 12345s instead of the real number! You should replace the WINNT.SIF in the FILESCD\I386 directory with your own. To create your own, use the SETUPMGR.EXE program found in SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY.CAB on your XP CD, and rename the resulting file, UNATTENDED.TXT, to WINNT.SIF.

Third, in terms of DOTNET, installing this first seems to "prepare" the Windows Installer for MSI installations (Many MS updates are MSI installations inside of EXE files.) Whether you need it or not I cannot tell. Try and see!

@mdes! STOP pushing the Add Reply button! Everything seems to be OK now, n'est-ce pas?

@daywalker03: Glad to see we got you out of the closet! Welcome, and don't worry about too long posts ... my readers are used to it!

@Alanoll: Thanks for posting the Flash link.

@benthos: It looks line your problems are only on the Home version. I never liked the way the Home version handled networking, so I generally don't touch it with a ten foot pole ... I will try to run a few tests on it next week. Unless you have sorted out the problems by then! Thanks for posting your findings, and look forward to hearing the "suite". (A Belge, a Canadian ... good thing this is written and not spoken!)

@hevnbnd: Glad to hear that it is working. If you try the SATA, I made a couple corrections (mentioned in another thread), so update before testing this. Please let me know if you get that working.

@GreenMachine: No, it is NOT good in my last test where I removed SVC-EXE\LANGPACK.EXE but leave SVC-M2X\LANGPACK.EXE (I didn't change anything else!). WinUpdate says that DOTNETFX was not installed, so LANGPACK give the error "You should install .NET Fw before" when I executed it.

I'm going to put it in SVC-EXE\LANGPACK.EXE for a new test.

It is very, very strange :)

Very strange, indeed.

Just remember: the LANGPACK.EXE that you can put in SVC-EXE is NOT the same as the one for SVC-X2M. (Isn't that one LANGPACK.MSI?) I will not be able to test the French version again till next week, but I will let you know if you haven't solved it first.

Yes, I remember :)

But, with SVC-M2X\LANGPACK.EXE, why do you generate
[SetupHotfixesToRun]
...
LANGPACK.EXE /Q:A /R:N
Normally, you had repack it to run w/o switch?

Any suggestion for what to do with the EXE file "msjavwu.exe"? I was part of the updates that IE cached before patching my clean XP sp1 system just now.

@mdes: All IExpress repacks, swichless or not, can be run with those switches. As can Type II hotfixes. LANGPACK.EXE will run silent either way. The switches act more as a "catch-all". You get it?

@sniffles: msjavwu.exe can be added to SVC-HF2. It is not listed, as SP1A is the "standard", and MS Virtual Machine is no longer implemented.

@GM: That's what I though, but I asked it to be sure :)

Now & INCREDIBALY, I tested again - as I said in one of my last post - with SVC-EXE\LANGPACK.EXE: Here are the results WinUpdate gave me: (GreenMachine, don't read further :D):
  • KB832483 (MDAC)
  • 819696 (DirectX)
  • KB831240 (HighMat)
  • DirectX 9.0b end user
  • 817778
  • .Net Fw 1.1 French
  • Movie Majer II
Trying to install manually LANGPACK, I received as error ".Net Fw not 1.1 installed".
Than, I rebooted, but I got the same results

I don't know where is the problem, an hardware one perhaps?

mdes, I think your problem with Directx would be solved by using DX9NTopk.exe instead of DX9.exe. As far as the other problems you're having, I would have to test to see if I have the same problems once my disk is burned and I have the system modifications done for testing it.

I'll take your word. After all, installing DOTNET is a very simple step.
Again, thanks for your time and attention.

Here is the readme.txt:

Icons - Lock on Desktop

"In Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP you can lock down the position of the Desktop icons using a couple of files from the MS Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit.  Download Layout.dll here. ftp://ftp.zdnet.com/...0598/layout.zip

Place it here: C:\Winnt\System32 then double click the Layout.reg file. You will now have a new right click option.

The procedure to create DX9.exe was given by somebody (!), and it is working (see my previous posts). The OPK version does not include the French version, so I cannot use it :)

can u give a link to the french LANGPACK.EXE??
I would like to help, but only seeing its name doesn't help :)

@gm what's the complete order of folders getting processed??
I think mdes'es .net update runs b4 .net 11 install.

@mdes so i'm guessing u should run it afterwards. what does your svcpack look like. take a look at it & change the order of .net and langpack...
