Sorry, didn't think about the most relevant thread/forum, I was just excited that I'd found a 2k specific thread! Thanks for putting me straight.

I'll post the question in unattended.

Once again thanks for the excellent work!

I'm nearly there with my W2k build, only one problem outstanding... rootsupd.exe WU is still saying I need this.

I've downloaded the one from the links earlier in this topic, but my size is different to that listed by GM in the hotfix list. I've also followed the info on how this link was found and downloaded direct from there, just in case there was some error in copying, but I get the same the same file.

My rootsupd.exe is 190 kbytes, 193,888 bytes. When I run this exe nothing happens, but when I open in WinZip I can see 9 files totaling 238 kbytes, 244,437 bytes

22/06/2000  12:28               88,848 ADVPACK.DLL
12/02/2003  12:42               96,991 authroots.sst
12/02/2003  12:42                4,202 delroots.sst
12/02/2003  12:43                5,534 roots.sst
03/07/2003  17:38                1,609 rootsupd.inf
12/02/2003  12:43                5,632 updroots.exe
02/07/2003  19:39               34,741 updroots.sst
22/06/2000  12:29                2,272 W95INF16.DLL
22/06/2000  12:29                4,608 W95INF32.DLL

So is it me? Should I be doing something different?

The file sizes I posted are for the one file, usually named rootsupd, followed by a couple of dozwn random characters. You have the older version. I believe you can find the address to the correct file from the Windows Update.txt file in the WINDOWS directory after a WIndows Update. Post the link once you find it!

As expected right on! Got the link from Windows\Windows Update.log, downloaded, added to XPCREATE and rebuilt. Now WU says no updates are required!

The link is http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...33e35777fcd.exe

A bit of final polishing and file copying and it's all done.

Thanks again GM!

im trying to create a win2k cd using XPCREATE. i tried searching but could not find any topic regarding installation of IE6 & IE6SP1 together.

imo, by default, win2K installs IE5. so it seems necessary to first install IE6 & after that installing IE6SP1 on top of that in order for some hotfixes to work.

even in the Current Hotfixes page of XPCREATE under the win2K section, there is mention of IE6SP1 only.

but everybody here seems so happy and i think i missed something out. :)

could someone please explain what am i doing wrong?

The IE installation is IE6SP1, not IE6: That is the missing piece! No need to install IE6, then IE6SP1.

Gone back to tweak some of my W2k install and XPCREATE now stops at Merging Hotfixes.

When I look in the log I see the following, full log is attached.

Overwrite C:\W2kCD\TEMP\SVCPACK\OE60SP~1.EXE (Yes/No/All)?

If I press (either) Y, N or A execution continues.

The file does exist in the temp\SVCPACK directory. I added the /Y switch to (only) the offending XCOPY in XPCREATE and it now runs through OK. I've scanned for what copies this file to try and work out if it should already be copied, but can't spot where it's happening except in MERGEHFS.

So, while I look deeper into script, should the /Y switch be added, or have I got an error in my directory structure? I should add, I've manually deleted all of the temporary directories and rerun XPCREATE, the "fault" (I hate saying that about such a wonderful tool) is repeatable.

I don't recommended modifying the copyrighted code ... The "fault" lies in the operator, not the program!

Remove OE6.0sp1-KB837009-x86-ENU.exe from SVC-HF2, and you are fine.

I guessed it was an operator error, but it was late, and it had been a long day and this was one of those 5 minute favours for a friend!

I would never suggest there was an error with XPCREATE, I think it's one of the best things on the planet. :D I hope you didn't take offence as none was meant, I was hinting that this was "an operator error" not an "author error".

And yes, you're right (again), I don't know how, but I had KB837009 in HF2 also. :D

Once again a stupid error by less than well educated user. :)

Hi GM how is it going?

OK. I have done 4 test runs with 2k + sp4 with xpcreate here is my results.

1st note XPCREATE made the cd image with no errors and i am using CDRW's for testing.

test1, system1 - all went well but the following updates did not go in:

KB837001
KB828741
KB835732
KB828749
KB824105

test2, system1 - with some major reading of this thread i was able to install with perfection.

test3, system2 - same result as test1

test4, system3 - same result as test1

now i am not shure if it is somthing i am doing wrong or not. some sugestion would be helpfull.

Sorry for sounding like a complete novice, because I am, but is there a 2kcreate program? i have used xpcreate succesfully - and boy is it an amazing program - but I am not to sure on how to use it for win2000pro. You guys sometimes do get very technical for us hillbillys. Please do inform on how to go about this.

thank you in advance.

No worries. 2KCREATE is vaporware, but XPCREATE works fine on Windows 2000! Just do as with XP, but use the 2K CD instead.

Welcome to MSFN, Hillbilly Apollyon!

OK Thanks for the reply, but let me get this straight...

I put in my win2000 cd and do what i did for xp - and it will autodownload all hotfixes and patches and packs and do the slipstreaming? Which by the way when I ran XPCREATE it did and that was very smart, nice work on that!

Or

Do I do all the slipstreaming and have all the right patches and hotfixes in the right folders like in the list?

Hmmmm Let me get this straight. Are you using XPCREATE, which does not download anything, or XPCTEST, which does? If XPCTEST, the links have just been put up by Virindi, and should work fine. If you have XPCTEST questions/issues, we can talk in the XPCTEST thread ...

Yes sorry i meant XPCTEST, that worked amazingly fine for the win xp pro cd,

but i have just tried to do the same using w2k pro, but this gave an error. so what do i need to do to use XPCTEST for w2kpro? or should I just use xpccreate?

Thank You in advance.
