submix8c
I don't have the wherewithal to test this. Has anyone else?ZDNet story here. If true, then non-Microsoft multibooters may want to reconsider...
allen2
Not many people may have their hands on the required hardware as most motherboard doesn't even support uefi booting right now. Also i don't see how oems could completly look out users from modding the bios as it already exist for many motherboards.
MagicAndre1981
simply read hardware tests before you buy new PCs and check if the OEM includes an option to disable the "secure boot" option. If not, simply don't buy such products and buy other hardware which give you the choice to disable "secure boot".
Tripredacus
Its too early to tell about this. The Dev Preview didn't have anything to build a system like that.
endlessness
Even if this happens, I guess major Linux distros (Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE etc...) will be able to get boot keys. But smaller community-backed distros probably won't.
MagicAndre1981
but GRUB is GPL and so the key must be made public and malware can use it, too. So secure boot is useless.

Tripredacus
Anyways, everything I'm seeing isn't really being done by Microsoft. Microsoft has a plan to use UEFI with the next OS, but has largely left it up to the board/BIOS manufacturers to figure out how to do it. As you can imagine, not everyone is on board (no pun intended) with this plan. Many of the smaller integrators like Pegatron, Gammatech, AOpen, etc have no plans for such things (or seem oblivious to the idea) so if they end up going the way of UEFI and SecureBoot, it would be done by someone else in the chain, such as the BIOS manufacturers. dencorso
Proactive anxiety in not a good frame-of-mind, IMHO. Let's wait and see whether there is a problem, before setting on solving it.Or, as we say here in Brazil: "Tomorrow we'll think about it!". CoffeeFiend
Or, as we say here in Brazil: "Tomorrow we'll think about it!". I like it I like to think the people who are building this system aren't completely incompetent and have thought of basic issues like dual booting. Either ways, you should still be able to boot from a plain old BIOS (Win8 or otherwise).
Joseph_sw
this makes me curious, if MS got this idea from Sony' PS3' OtherOS removal fiascos ...
